Calvin "Slick" Stanhope is a major antagonist of the 1985 Western Silverado.
He was portrayed by Jeff Goldblum, who also played Brundlefly in The Fly, Verminous Skumm in Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Long Eared Jack in Robbie the Red Nose Reindeer, Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok, Zeus in KAOS, Orian Franklin in Hotel Artemis and Dr. Erwin Armstrong in The Boss Baby: Family Business.
Biography[]
He makes his debut in the movie arriving in Silverado, when he arrives looking for an honest game after Sheriff Cobb kills the ex manager of Stella's saloon. McKendrick quickly puts the evil gambler on his pay roll and Stanhope takes up with Mal's sister, Rae. He tries to get Rae to introduce him to Mal, who sees right through him and knows he's no good. When McKendrick kills Ezra, sets fire to the land office and burns it down, and kidnaps the young nephew of Emmett's, Rae suggests that Mal gets the assistance of Stanhope, who leads Mal into a trap set in motion by Cobb and McKendrick.
Towards the end of the movie, Sheriff Cobb orders Stanhope to find Rae and he finds her and stays with her. While the heroes save Emmett's young nephew and attack McKendrick's ranch and face off against the villains, Mal finds Stanhope and Rae together and Stanhope says she'll live but needs a doctor. Then Stanhope attacks Mal and tries to kill him, but Mal finds his hidden knife and fatally stabs Stanhope with it killing him.
