Calvin Magallanes is one of the main antagonists (alongside his former adoptive father Edgardo Magallanes) of the 2023 Filipino TV series Black Rider.
He was believed to be the son of Edgardo Magallanes, the leader Golden Scorpion, but he's actually the child of their rival Antonio Rodriguez , the leader of Pulang Diyablo, who was responsible for putting him to Edgardo by replacing Edgardo’s biological son as an exchange for vengeance. Unknown to him that Edgardo is his adaptive father, also Elias Guerrero (Black Rider) his adaptive half brother who’s to be his archenemy.
He is portrayed by Jon Lucas who also portrayed young Renato Hipolito in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.

Born to Antonio, the leader of Pulang Diablo the rival of Golden Scorpion and Rosa. The two syndicates clash for rivalry, Pulang Diablo was defeated resulting that his mother died thanks to Edgardo’s men. As Antonio retaliates he ambushed Edgardo’s wife Hilda and replaced their son to Calvin to take over the Golden Scorpion’s wealth as Antonio’s way to extract his vengeance and killed Edgardo’s biological son. Unbeknownst to Edgardo that he raised him as Antonio’s son.
Throughout the years he was raised by Edgardo Magallanes and trained him to be the next leader of Golden Scorpion. On the other side, Edgardo always abused and underestimated him due to his recklessness and constant failures causing almost of the Golden Scorpion’s plan to be jeopardized.
Road to crime and crossing paths with Elias Guerrero[]
Calvin continued doing illegal activities in the Golden Scorpion with his father, he crossed paths with Elias Guerrero after a road rage. Unknown to him that he is Edgardo’s abandoned son to his former lover Alma in Cebu. To extract his revenge he manslaughter Elias’ wife and children, making him Elias enter the path of vigilantism. As Elias trains and became a mysterious vigilante known as Black Rider, he constantly faced Black Rider to stop him from jeopardizing Golden Scorpion’s plans. As Edgardo gradually forgets him as his son, due to his constant failures, he investigates Edgardo for background checking Elias, as Edgardo had suspicions that Elias is his biological son after seeing Elias with Alma, Edgardo’s former lover in Cebu. He started a mission for himself to confirm that he has a half brother, and kill him to prove himself that he is the next leader of Golden Scorpion.
Antonio and 2nd DNA Test and conflict with Elias[]
After he got into a drunk car accident, Antonio decided to have Calvin at his place where he can be safe (possibly from Edgardo). When Calvin woke up in confusion, he tried to escape the place, only to be found by Antonio who told him that he's Calvin's real father and that he swapped him with someone else when he was a baby. Being in total Denial of what Antonio told him, Calvin decided to again investigate Edgardo, only to have some of his suspicions right. That Calvin is not Edgardo's son. Still in Denial, Calvin then decided to do his own DNA test. It turned out that every assumption both Antonio and Edgardo told Calvin are true. that he's actually Antonio's real son. not Edgardo's. and that his original name was Abel Rodriguez. Enraged with all of that, Calvin then decided to have him and the other Golden Scorpion members to have Alma, the mother of Elias, hostage so that he can get to meet Black Rider unmasked.
Days after beating Black Rider and learns his true identity as Elias Guerrero and Edgardo’s lost son, Edgardo decided to spare Elias since as Edgardo learns Elias is his lost son. However, Calvin remained adamant in defying Edgardo’s order as he still adamant to be the next heir of Golden Scorpion, he challenged Elias in a vicious duel in a remote waterfalls resulting his apparent death. Severely injured in the battle, Rebecca Chen took him to treat his injuries and brought a fake corpse of him to make Edgardo believe that he has died in the duel. As he regains consciousness, he meets Rebecca Chen and tells him about her true motive that she reminds her of her son and convince him to be his new ally as Edgardo and Golden Scorpion has fallen.
Road to vengeance[]
He escapes in the hands of Rebecca Chen who continues to manipulate him thanks to his father, Antonio, he was able to escape from her hands. As he stays with Antonio and fathers him, he hatched his plan to use his father for him to obtain power to use for his revenge to Elias where he was trained by Antonio intensely. Days later, he participated with Sen. William’s forces to ambush the president and Elias upon learning that Sen. William has been exposed his corruption. With this clash, he once again dueled Elias and attempted to beat him only that Elias managed to fight back causing him to be slightly injured. With this clash this caused him to constantly hunt and kill his rival Elias.
The next day he ambushed Elias and Nimfa in the hospital causing them to escape from his hands and hide from a remote mountainside. He eventually learns their whereabouts and continues manhunting them where she was able to abduct Nimfa and attempted to rape her but Elias stopped him causing them to further escape from his hands.
Calvin faces Adrian for his jealousy and disturbs Bane's gun training.
The night where Paeng and Joan had their wedding in Mayor Alfonso’s rest house, he invaded the wedding with his goons and terrorizes everyone causing deaths majority of the attendants including Joan and Paeng. He was able to corner Elias and tortured him mortally until Edgardo and the Golden Scorpion backs up Elias causing him to retreat. This time he learns that Edgardo has confirmed that he is not the biological son thanks to Mattias.
He then fell in love with Vanessa (one of his victims in Paeng and Joan's wedding), but at first did not expect to see her after that incident.
The Golden Scorpion (along with Elias) invades the Senator's party and destroys/ruins it completely by attacking those who opposed them. just when Calvin was about to evacuate, he runs into his fake father Edgardo. Filled with anger, Edgardo and Calvin fight each other with the former managing to corner the latter.
Days after the ruined party, Calvin was filled with rage when he saw the body of his real dead father Antonio Rodriguez.
He vowed to be the husband Vanessa deserved, but Adrian Park would not let that happen after Calvin saw both him and Vanessa doing shooting practice.
Calvin then showed his true colors to Vanessa, but then realized that it won't work, so he proposed to Vanessa. But she still denied his proposal. Left with no other option, Calvin decides to show his true colors to her once more, only to be attacked by Elias who's come to take back his first love interest.
6 months later, Calvin ordered his goons to steal Vanessa’s son. As he was about to kill Elias, he was shot by Romana to stop him from causing chaos. He escaped from the warehouse, only to be shot in the back by Elias. He was brutally beaten up by Elias to stop him from causing chaos. Elias shot him one last time, ending Calvin’s evil wickedness. However in the post-credit scene, he is shown to have survived and is in critical condition.

Personality[]
Due to being raised in a wealth lifestyle, he displays to be spoiled, privileged, egotistical, and charismatic individual thinking that money is everything to him using them for power to do various crimes in the country. Despite being spoiled from wealth, he is seen to be dedicated to prove his worth to his father who constantly abuse him and become his successor as the leader of the “Golden Scorpion”. He is also seen to be hot-headed individual, and gets easily angered when someone opposes or insults him. Overall he is shown to be a sadistic individual as he is mostly seen inflicting pain cold-heartedly to his enemies.

- He bares strong resemblance to Rebecca Chen’s son.
- The real Calvin was rumored to be some fans in YouTube Clips is Rafael Policarpio. However the real son of Edgardo turns out to be Moises.
- It is unknown why Edgardo didn’t realize from the start that he wasn’t his real son after being replaced as he notes his son having a necklace with scorpion medallion which would logically explain that he should have realized it after he recovers Hilda and Antonio’s son.
- In the post-credit scene where it was revealed he survived during their intense duel with Elias, it is somehow similar to Senior High’s post-credit scene where the main villain William Acosta is revealed to survive in the final battle and both are recovering from intense injuries caused by their battles with the protagonists.
