Mr. Sparks, known after the Fall as Calypso, is the main antagonist of the 2023 Peacock series Twisted Metal, based on the video game series of the same name.
He is a supernatural being and the host of the Twisted Metal tournament.
He is portrayed by Anthony Carrigan, who also played Dennis Caleb McCoy in Bill & Ted Face the Music and NoHo Hank in Barry.
History[]
Background[]
Calypso is a demonic supernatural entity believed to originate from Hell. He arrived on Earth in 1585, crawling out of a well in Virginia. He later joined the Roanoke Colony, long before it disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Nearly five hundred years later, in the early 2000s and before the apocalypse, Calypso pitched his idea for a 22-episode television series called "Twisted Metal" to NBC, but it was promptly rejected. As a result, he caused the Fall in 2002, rendering all electronic devices unusable. After the Fall, Calypso became an enigmatic figure, vandalizing at least 376 road signs bearing the phrase "Calypso Exists."
One night, Calypso met John and talked by a freshly-lit fire about wishes, desires, and also about freedom. John introduces himself, but Calypso never reveals his own name, likely because he wasn't asked. He does keep trying to drop hints that he's Calypso, but much to his disappointment, he discovers nobody even knows who "Calypso" is, despite him having spent a significant amount of time trying to make a name for himself with signs. Offering him a strawberry drink, Calypso asks John what he would ever wish for. When John says he'd like a home to park his car, Calypso laughs at him, stating that John doesn't know how free he really is. Upon leaving, John asks Calypso what he would wish for. Calypso stops to think about it, and says that more than anything, he'd like to be seen. He bids John farewell, and tells him to enjoy the drinks, revealing a full six-pack has magically appeared on the stump Calypso was sitting on, and Calypso's sign has finished itself. John doesn't recognize him when they meet again at the tournament.
Season 1[]
In 2022, Alpha Raven requested a package from him and charged John Doe with retrieving it from New Chicago. After Doe and Quiet arrived, he let them into an underground facility to receive the package, talking to them through the PA system unseen. One month later, Calypso would begin planning his Twisted Metal tournament.
Season 2[]
Seven months later, he finally announced his contest by turning on every single electronic device in the country, inviting all assassins, mercenaries, vigilantes and joy riders to compete. Three days after the announcement, before the start of the actual tournament, the Qualifying Round took place. As he was explaining the rules, he got annoyed by Chuckie Floop's sudden interruption, but continued on to explain the rules, which involved the drivers having to deliver a package to Tournament City without dying. Should their package take too much damage, it's lights will blink red, a voice message will say "game over," and they will be killed by an incoming air strike missile referred to by Dollface as "Heaven Bombs." After explaining, he started counting down from ten. On zero, he caused an eclipse to occur which also signals for the qualifying round to begin. After the round is completed, Calypso has all of the contestants moved onto a school bus and transported to a local high school inside Tournament City where they are given lodging for the rest of his games.
Physical Appearance[]
Calypso is a man with a slender figure and a theatrical appearance. His long, straight, brown hair falls to his shoulders, framing a face with strong, expressive features. His piercing gaze, with its disturbing brilliance, exudes a fierce intensity - of which has been seen to change eye color to a deep red / black when required or employing his abilities; reinforced by a crooked smile that betrays an almost supernatural malice. Always elegantly dressed, he wears a dark suit accentuated by a red handkerchief neatly folded in his jacket pocket.
Personality[]
He is a mysterious, charismatic, and eerie showman. As the malevolent creator of the Twisted Metal Tournament, he grants the winner a single wish, solely for his own twisted entertainment. His enigmatic motives align with his disturbing personality, highlighted by his high-pitched, frightening laugh, which irritates and unnerves those around him. He is also an individual who enjoys chaos and discord for its own amusement. A narcissist, his sole desire is to be seen and recognized by the world.

- Immortality: Calypso is a supernatural, immortal demonic entity. Living since the 16th century, he is destined to exist forever.
- Wish Granting: Calypso organizes the Twisted Metal Tournament and grants the winner's wish, no matter what it may be, even if it seems impossible.
- Cosmic Manipulation: Calypso was able to cause a solar eclipse.
- Pyrokinesis: He can light a damp campfire simply by holding out his hands.
- Conjuration: Calypso can make packages of drinks appear out of thin air.
- Teleportation: He can instantly travel to any location of his choosing.
- Electrokinesis: Calypso can control electronics, such as turning on every electronic device in America or remotely frying frying machines, simply by turning his eyes red, causing a short circuit and rendering the machine inoperable.

- It is possible that in the Twisted Metal universe he was responsible for the disappearance of the Roanoke colony, and that the word Croatoan was the name he used at the time.
- It is possible that he is actually a demon or a damned soul from Hell.
- He is responsible for the apocalypse and the fall of civilization, having rendered all electronic devices useless.
