“ | Cameron would always sleep with the girls that I liked, but before I could get to them. If I ever told him that I liked a girl, he would swoop in and have sex with them within a week. | „ |
~ Ethan describing Cameron's behaviour at college, supporting his theory that Cameron experiences mimetic desire and has a fragile sense of self. |
Cameron Sullivan is a supporting antagonist in season two of The White Lotus.
He is a friend of Ethan Spiller from university and the husband of Daphne. He spends most of the trip trying to seduce Ethan's uninterested wife, Harper, to one-up Ethan.
He was portrayed by Theo James, who also portrayed Bastion in X-Men '97, James in The Inbetweeners Movie and Hector in Netflix's Castlevania.
Personality[]
Cameron is a stereotypical "finance bro", who takes on a self-believed "alpha male" personality. He belittles Ethan for being physically weaker than him, and finds himself superior to most. It is likely that Cameron is a narcissist. He has little respect for boundaries with his friends and with women, showing predatory behaviour.
He has an open relationship agreement with his wife, Daphne, and is aroused at the prospect of her sleeping with others, as well as showing some envy which motivates him to also have sex with others.
Physical appearance[]
Cameron is a tall, muscular, Caucasian man. He has brown hair and light stubble.
Biography[]
Background[]
Cameron and Ethan both attended the same college. During their time there, they would compete at who could seduce the most girls. Ethan believes that Cameron suffered from mimetic desire, whereby he would sleep with women that Ethan liked as he felt threatened by him. Cameron later begins working in the finance industry. At some point, he met and married Daphne, and had children. It is unknown when they opened their relationship up.
The White Lotus[]
Cameron and Daphne arrive in Sicily and encounter Ethan and his wife, Harper. Shocked at the coincidence, the pair discover they will also be staying in adjacent rooms which share a secret door. Harper immediately dislikes the couple due to their political ignorance, but alienates herself in doing so as Ethan seeks to reminisce with Cameron about their past.
As the holiday progresses, Ethan and Harper learn that Cameron and Daphne have an open relationship. When Daphne takes Harper out for an evening, Cameron and Ethan take MDMA and meet prostitutes. They are brought back to Ethan's room, where Cameron has a threesome with them, but Ethan does not participate.
Harper discovers a condom wrapper used by Cameron in her room and accuses Ethan, who tells her the truth which Harper struggles to believe. Ethan implores Cameron to tell Harper the truth, but does not do so immediately. Instead, Cameron attempts to seduce Harper by fondling her at the dinner table, making her uncomfortable.
Throughout this, the prostitutes try and receive their payment from Cameron who refuses to out of fear that Daphne will see. This leads to them asking Ethan, who is shocked they were unpaid, casting doubt over Cameron's authenticity. Harper reveals to Ethan that Cameron tried to seduce Harper and kissed her one evening which she regrets and did not want. Enraged, Ethan tracks Cameron down to the beach where he is swimming and confronts him. The pair argue, and Cameron belittles Ethan and hits a nerve. Ethan punches Cameron and tries to drown him in the sea before the fight is broken up.
Ethan then confides in Daphne, who shows signs that it is not the first time that Cameron has gone outside of the bounds of their agreement. The pair walk on to a secluded island, where it is heavily suggested they sleep together. At the end of the trip, Cameron and Daphne are seen in the airport unspeaking and untouching, partly due to Daphne's growing awareness of Cameron's infidelity and trauma from discovering Tanya's body in the ocean.
