Camila Elizonndro is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Omar Navarro) of Season 4 of the Netflix crime drama Ozark.
She is the mother Javier Elizonndro, who took a seemingly passive role at the Navarro Cartel while her brother Omar ran things. However, after the death of her son, and witnessing her brother take credit for it, she goes down a path of vengeance that leads her to the very top of the cartel.
She was portrayed by Veronica Falcón.
Biography[]
Camila is first seen discussing his current business objectives on the phone with her son Javi. After his death, she crosses paths with Marty Byrde when he is sent to Mexico to run the Navarro Cartel for a bit. When Omar commands Marty to tell his subordinates that he killed Javi to make himself look strong to them, and tries to claim that Javi betrayed the originization (which was technically true, but Omar already had first, and forced Javi into the position), Camila reacts to this news by immediately ordering a hit on him. After the hit fails and Omar kills his attacker, she then successfully frames a high ranking member of the cartel named Arturo Cabrera, which leads to him taking the fall for her actions and being executed.
Later on after Marty returns to the USA, he realizes that Camila had fooled him and was the true mastermind behind the assassination attempt. However, he has bigger matters to focus on, and ends up working with Wendy to deliberately help Camila take control of the Navarro Cartel for the FBI. Much like her son and brother before her, she takes the deal, and the FBI has Omar successfully killed by an officer under their command.
Things seemingly end on a smooth note, with Camila running the cartel for the FBI, and the Byrdes off the hook. However, Camila has one final trick up her sleeve and threatens their associate Clare Shaw, who she knew was working with her son on a business deal right before his death. In exchange for the truth, she promises not to harm Clare, and so the business woman admits that Ruth Langmore was her son's true murderer. She then threatens to kill the Byrde's children if they intervene, forcing them to stand by and do nothing as Camila goes off to kill Ruth.
During her confrontation with Ruth Langmore, the young woman immediately admits to killing her son, and refuses to apologize for it, as he had murdered her cousin Wyatt. Camila then shoots Ruth through the heart, killing her and successfully obtaining her revenge. After that, she presumably spends the rest of her days in control of her brother's cartel, with the FBI's backing.
Trivia[]
- Camila, Hannah Clay, and Frank Cosgrove Junior are the only major antagonists to succeed in the end. However, both Camila and Frank lost a close family member along the way.
