“ | Bertie: There's a reason I wasn't willing to come here. I, Um... When I was a kid, I trained all summer to swim to on my own to Peanut Butter Island. Coach Maple trained me in the mornings before camp. I was so excited. I went to the mall and bought this new swimsuit, bright red. The day of the swim, I was at the dock really early before Coach Maple made there. Our lifeguard was there every summer. He said that I was the best swimmer he'd seen in camp. He said that I was so good he didn't believe that I was just twelve. Well, that morning he told me that he really liked my new swimsuit. He told me he wanted to show me something in the woods, which I thought it was weird, but... He was an adult, so I followed him. I trusted him. I thought it was special... All I wanted was to swim to that island... This was my favorite place... *starts sobbing* |

~ Bertie as she tells Tuca about her hidden traumatic experience when she was a pre-adolescent teenager back at The Jelly Lakes in a Summer Camp, in which she implies that she got sexually assaulted by a Lifeguard there as a child. |
The Unnamed Camp Lifeguard is a minor antagonist from the Netflix/Adult Swim animated sitcom series Tuca & Bertie. He was mentioned by Bertie within the Episode "The Jelly Lakes".
The Lifeguard was a pedophile who had sexually assaulted Roberta "Bertie" Songthrush when she was twelve-years-old when he was working at the Jelly Lakes summer camp.
Biography[]
Background[]
In a flashback that takes place somewhere long before the events of the series, when Bertie was about twelve-years-old, she used to love to go to The Jelly Lakes when she and her family would go there to spend the summer. She was excited to go there as she also went to the mall to buy a bright red swimsuit for her to swim with. Bertie would attend a summer camp there to train herself to swim all the way to Peanut Butter Island with the help of Coach Maple, in which Bertie would always show up at the docks early in the morning before her Coach arrived.
The Lifeguard would also be there every summer. That morning, when he saw Bertie swim, he complimented her for her swimming, saying that she was so good that he "didn't believe that [Bertie] was twelve". He would then also compliment Bertie on her red swimsuit and says that he wanted to "show [Bertie] something". Bertie did find this recommendation as weird, yet she still listened to him as she saw him as a trusted adult.
However, it was implied that it was a trick that the Lifeguard used as an opportunity to sexually assault Bertie. This turn of events is what lead to Bertie giving up her love for swimming, as well as leaving her with PTSD that gets triggered when she in situations that are sexual (with an example, such as if she is called a "bad birdie") and has left Bertie with serious trust issues ever since.
The Camp Lifeguard was never seen from again, meaning that the lifeguard got away with his crimes scot-free, got arrested or had retired from his job.
Personality[]
Although there isn't much known about the Lifeguard, he was described to be a deceitful pedophile who had a perversion with Bertie when she was a pre-adolescent child at the time. This behavior was also shown when it was mentioned that the Lifeguard also praised Bertie for her swimming skills while saying that he "didn't believe that [Bertie] was twelve", as well as saying that he really liked Bertie's swimsuit despite the latter being a child at the time.
He was also able to trick Bertie by luring her into the woods as of means to sexually assault her.
