Modification Captain Cannonborg (改造隊長キャノンボーグ Kaizō Taichō Kyanonbōgu) is a major antagonist in Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger, serving as the main antagonist of the show's second lap.
Cannonborg is voiced by Kujira, who have previously voiced Orochimaru in Naruto and El of the Wind in Kamen Rider Agito.
Biography[]
Past[]
Not much is known about their past, but it's known that Cannonborg was born on Planet Needham and later became the Modification Captain of Hashiriyan, working alongside Madrex before he was dispatched to Earth.
Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger[]
Following the defeat of Madrex by the Boonboomgers, Cannonborg arrives on Earth to replace him (colliding with Engine Speedor along the way) and supervise the Sanseaters, who are failing to collect Gyahsoline. Disappointed in their performance, Cannonborg takes charge over the invasion of Earth.
Cannonborg later creates the Boonboom Killer Robo as another means of defeating the Boonboomgers, equips it with a boombox that plays Gyakuten Agesage Ondo, a song that powers down the Boonboomgers, and lets the Sanseaters pilot the robo. Thanks to Genba's wit, the Boonboomgers manage to destroy the Boombox, repower themselves up and destroy the Killer Robo. The Boonboomgers later destroy a modified version of the Killer Robo.
Cannonborg calls for assistance from the galaxy's best cleaner, Sakito Homura, to have him deliver the Legendary Sword of Planet Reflector from the Hashiriyan HQ to Earth. Sakito delivers it, and Cannonborg introduces themselves to the Boonboomgers, though Sakito later destroyed Sword Grumer, which Itasha created from the legendary sword.
Cannonborg modifies Yaiyai Yarucar without his permission, giving him the ability to fire the Highway Beam (ハイウェイ光線 Haiwei Kōsen), which can enlarge Kurumaju without the need to enter Highway Space, a move that demotivates the Sanseaters.
Cannonborg later hires Sakito Homura to defeat the Boonboomgers, with the Sanseaters using a trading card owned by him as a bargaining chip to force him to work for them. This eventually led to Sakito turning his back on the Hashiriyans joining the Boonboomgers. Cannonborg turns the sword of Planet Reflector into the Boonboom Killer Classic, which is wielded in battle by the Boonboom Killer Robo.
Death[]
As Cannonborg finds out that the Sanseaters have collected a very low amount of Gyahsoline, they decide to fire their final weapon - A satellite named Jackie Hoihoi - on Earth, a move that shocks even the Sanseaters. They go into hiding to fire Jackie Hoihoi, but right before Cannonborg successfully fires the weapon, Sakito shoots Jackie out of their hands to prevent them from doing so, revealing to them that the ISA were the ones who gave away their location to the Boonboomgers. Cannonborg brainwashes the Sanseaters and sends them to fight the Boonboomgers, while dueling Sakito alone. Cannonborg offers him to help them assassinate Waruido Spindo and take over Hashiriyan with them, but Sakito disagrees and defeats the Modification Captain. The Sanseaters, enraged by Cannonborg's attitude, enlarge them and leave them to fight the Boonboomger Robo and Byunbyum Mach Robo alone. The Boonboomgers combine all of their Boonboom Cars to finally destroy Cannonborg and Jackie Hoihoi.
Legacy[]
In Bakuage 29, it's revealed that Cannonborg made a deal with the Aori family, who tried to capture Mira at the beginning of the series. Cannonborg offered them to become the commanders of Earth when the Hashiriyans conquer it, giving them an Ignition Key as a proof of the deal. Ishiro Meita is tasked by Eiichiro Tokoyari to retrieve the key from the Aori family and bring it to him. It's revealed that the deal was the reason why Tokoyari disclosed Cannonborg's location to the Boonboomgers, as the deal was a hindrance to his plans.
Personality[]
Cannonborg is an intelligent yet prideful and arrogant commander, who has a very low toleration for failure. Cannonborg will often punish the Sanseaters for slacking off and failing to collect Gyahsoline, which earned them their enmity.
However, Cannonborg's fighting capabilities are almost non-existent, which is why they stays behind and leave the Sanseaters to do the dirty work, another reason they resent them.
Despite that, Cannonborg respects those above him in the Hashiriyan hierarchy, especially their boss, Waruido Spindo. This respect disappears, however, when Cannonborg believes that Spindo abandoned them to die by the hands of the Boonboomgers. Cannonborg then begins developing a superiority complex when they begins to believe that they're not only the smartest person in Hashiriyan, but in the entire universe. This leads to them trying to destroy Earth, a plan that even the Sanseaters oppose to, and attempting to turn on Hashiriyan together with Sakito.
