The Canyonggalan, better known as Canyon Crowns, are supporting antagonists in Seasons 1 and 2 of the alternate history analog horror series THE MONUMENT MYTHOS, the first installment in the franchise of the same name.
Found on accident by Flinders Petrie, the process of becoming a Crown was utilized by the U.S. to kill people they believed to be treasonous while also giving their corpses some usefulness, with President Rockefeller enslaving them for use in German zeppelins. When this was discovered by the American people, the government quickly began destroying the airships with no trace of Crowns. Two ADA members, Maya and Nathaniel Arnoldson, would also fall prey to becoming Crowns, and attempt to help their younger relatives escape The Great Division, only to great failure.
Appearance[]
The Crowns are large, brownish black bulbous creatures that have a human head in on the front of it, which is usually hairless. They will usually stink of vinegar due to their process of retracting their heads into their bodies. All of these creatures are usually flying, working similar to balloons.
Biography[]
Flinders Petrie's Accident[]
After hearing many stories about lightning strikes around the Pyramids of Giza, an Egyptologist named Flinders Petrie would begin a hunt for the areas where lightning would strike in the 1870s. He would discover that only on tribe, the Bedouins, knew of where the lightning to strike, due to a certain constellation. Petrie would discover this constellation and set up an expedition in 1880 for the area where the lightning would strike, and sure enough, the constellation lead to an area where large amounts of what seemed to be fulgurite would be. Petrie would take the fulgurite back, and would stack the glass in thin sheets, where he would then cut off his own head due to the sharpness of the glass. He would survive however, and still be able to talk to his fellow teammates, though, some would notice his head would swell, and he would eventually become a Crown.
Protection of Grand Canyon[]
The glass, now known as Giza Glass, would be taken to the British Museum in 1891, and would be dubbed "Petrie's Lot". The glass was not accepted by the museum due to the poor transport of the glass. The glass would instead be handed out to American ambassadors as a show of American-British diplomacy, but when the ambassadors return, President John Rockefeller would immediately confiscate the glass, learning of it's anomolous properties. Many of the ambassadors would urge the president to utilize the glass for warfare, but after a meeting with the Department of the Interior, Rockefeller would decide to instead craft the glass into swords, and give it to several Greco-Egyptian statues in a program called Operation Giza Guardian. They would protect restricted parts of the canyon from trespassers until 1969.
Rockefeller's Solution to Infestation[]
With a noticably tanking economy, and an infestation of Crowns within the Grand Canyon due to Operation Giza Guardian, President Rockefeller chooses to enslave and sell the Crowns to the German Government for use in zeppelins, called Luschtiff Rockefeller 70s, dubbed The Rockefellers. They would be tied together in the balloon of the zeppelin, used to propel it. Three or more would usually be within one zeppelin. These airships would later be used in bombing raids in WWI on English and American soldiers.
The Anti-Airship Death Ray[]
President Charles Evan Hughes would later have to utilize Giza Glass technology to create an "Anti-Airship Death Ray", which would be used to decommission The Rockefellers without leaving traces of Crowns. Seventeen Florida alumni would then test the Death Ray on an airship by positioning it on a Pyramid of Giza while the zeppelins were doing worldwide tours, and they would be vaporized instantly, and would later reform into the Air Force One Angel.
Maya and Nathaniel Arnoldson[]
After Freedom replaces the Guardians in 1977, she would be utilized by Maize and the US Government in executions of ADA members and other who would try to pry for information about TFMDs. One of these individuals would include Maya Arnoldson, and when she is murdered by Freedom, Nathaniel Arnoldson, her brother, along with his son Lauren, would attempt to locate her in the Grand Canyon. When they succeed, they would return home. Years later, Nathaniel would also meet the same fate, and would come back home to see Lauren, stalking him. They somehow communicate with each other later on, and along with his sibling Quinn, would attempt to fly away on Nathaniel's and Maya's Crowns when The Great Divison began to occur, and this fails, leading them to fall to their death.

- Flinders Petrie would be decapitated in both the Deaniverse and reality, where in reality his head is kept at the Royal College for display.
- The name Canyonggalan may be a reference to the Penanggalan, a creature from Philipino folklore which itself is also a flying head.
