Cao Pi (in Chinese: 曹丕), also known as Emperor Wen of Wei (in Chinese: 魏文帝), is one of the major antagonists in the 14th-century Chinese classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by the late Luo Guanzhong, and its multiple adaptations. He is Cao Cao's second son and successor, Lady Zhen's second husband and Cao Chong and Cao Zhi's eldest brothers
He was voiced by Nobutoshi Canna, who also voiced Knuckles from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Yugo Ogami from the Bloody Roar series, Flounder from the Japanese dub of The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, and Jann Lee from the Dead or Alive series.
He was voiced by Yukimasa Kishino in the Japanese version, and by Robert Belgrade, Douglas Rye, David Lodge, and Spencer Howard in the English version.
History[]
Early Life and Career[]
Cao Pi is second son of Cao Cao and Lady Bian (Cao Cao's eldest son Cao Ang died in Wan Castle) so he was became the heir of Cao Cao. During the Battle of Yuan Shao's sons, when Cao Pi sees the two women were crying and pulling the sword, he is the first time to meet Lady Zhen, Cao Pi is very easy to satisfy. Cao Pi particularly liked her before they were got married, so their first child was eventually born after they first meet. It is interesting to say that Lady Zhen's biological son Cao Rui is not Cao Pi's true son at all, rather say that it's Yuan Tan's son. While Cao Cao's efforts of rising Wei, Cao Pi and Cao Zhi had a battle of heir, which Cao Pi won and become Crown Prince after Cao Cao declared himself as Duke of Wei.
Becoming Emperor and Foundation of Wei[]
After Cao Cao's death, Cao Pi was hopefully to overthrow Emperor Xian and become the first Emperor of the Wei kingdom. However, Cao Pi forced Lady Zhen commited sucide and favor his new concubine Guo Nuwang and made her one of his favorite empresses. Cao Pi gave Sun Quan the title king of Wu in order to gain profit from the invasion of the Shu kingdom to Wu to revenge Guan Yu's death. Since the Wu forces will betray Cao Pi after defeated Shu and returned to camp, Cao Pi enrage and led forces invasion to Wu, which he was failed. Seven years after, he became ill and summoned his vassals Sima Yi, Chen Qun, Cao Zhen, and Cao Xiu to his bedside, whom he requested support for his son Cao Rui. Later in his life, Cao Pi died at the age of 40, leaving an important imprint in history as a poet despite his famous military failures.
Personality[]
Cao Pi is a man who closely follows his father's expectations. Unlike his father, he can speaks in a bitter tone and is more condescending. Though a loyal and respectful son, he is determined to surpass his father's image and realize his own dreams.
In historical, he is proved to be envious and jelousy person who willing to get rid of other because of his personal reason like poisoned one of his brothers Cao Zhang to death in front of their mother, exiled another brother (Cao Zhi) for believing that their father favoured Zhi more over him as Zhi was a better poet, attempted to execute Cao Hong (a cousin of Cao Cao's and one of his earliest and top generals) over their personal petty grudges (over money), shaming a veteran general (Yu Jin) to death, forced his wife Lady Zhen (Zhenji) to commit suicide or antagonize her until she's depressed enough to suicide.
In game, he show his care for Zhenji, contrast of historical version and treat his cousin Cao Xiu like his brother, unlike his own brother who he killed them without mercy.
