Capn' A. Krabs and Planky

Capn' A. Krabs and Planky are the main antagonists of the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Dopey Dick".

They're the ruthless owners of The Jelly Squirt Inn who hunt for Dopey Dick so that they can exploit his jelly to make money. They are also the 1830s counterparts of Mr. Krabs and Plankton.

Just like their descendents, they are voiced by Clancy Brown and Doug Lawrence respectively.

Biography[]

Fishmael Tentacles goes to the Jellyfish Squirt Inn. to get a job. Planky offers him some jelly, but he doesn't want any. Fishmael goes to the cash register as Capn' A. Krabs slams the opener on his hands. Planky asks Fishmael to buy jelly or get out. Fishmael does buy the Jelly, and Pat-Buck Star gets him a job at the Ye Old Pineapple. After Captain SpongeHab's crew releases Dopey Dick, the Jellyfish gets captured by Capn' A. Krabs' crew, who want to exploit his jelly to make money, and Planky uses nematodes to destroy Ye Old Pineapple.

Captain SpongeHab's crew sneaks into Capn' A. Krabs' ship when he and his crew are asleep so that they can save Dopey Dick. They do manage to free him, however, Capn' A. Krabs and his crew notices them sneaking into the ship. Dopey Dick comes back to save them and then jumps into the remains of Capn' A. Krabs and Planky's ship, which creates a whirlpool and leaves Fishmael as the sole survivor of Dopey Dick.

However, the episode then cuts back to Fishmael at the Jelly Squirt Inn. where it's revealed that the episode was a story being told by him, and everyone laughs at him for over exaggerating about being the only survivor when all of them were there.

Trivia[]

Capn' A. Krabs seems to have been heavily inspired by Captain Ahab from the novel Moby-Dick as evident by the fact that they are both cruel poachers who hunt for a big animal (Moby Dick for Captain Ahab and Dopey Dick for Capn' A. Krabs), as well as the fact that they're both missing a leg and instead have a wooden peg in its place. Additionally, Capn' A Krabs' outfit was inspired by the one that Captain Ahab wears in the 2011 Moby Dick miniseries.
- It's worth noting that the episode has another character that's inspired by Captain Ahab known as Captain SpongeHab, however, Capn' A. Krabs' personality and goals are a lot more similar to Captain Ahab.
Unlike Mr. Krabs and Plankton who are known for being enemies, Capn' A. Krabs and Planky are allies.
Capn' A. Krabs and Planky's goal of capturing Dopey Dick so that they can use his jelly to make money is similar to how Mr. Krabs poached a bunch of jellyfish to make money in the episode "Jellyfish Hunter".
