Captain Barder is the leader of Space Pirate Fleet Descal and a major antagonist in Chousei Kantai Sazer-X, serving as the main antagonist of the first arc and a posthumous antagonist for the second and third arcs.
He is voiced by an uncredited voice actor.
History[]
Captain Barder was presumably programmed by the ancestors of the Descal to one day lead the Descal back to Earth, which they had been driven from in the distant past by the Biyodo aliens. Barder would gather three descendants of Earth's ancient peoples, each of whom embodied a different element, to form the Three Shoguns to serve as the field commanders of the Descal. One of the Shoguns, Blaird, was an orphan who was adopted by Barder as a young child and raised by him, resulting in him coming to view Barder as akin to a father figure or god.
Eventually, once the Descal had accumulated enough resources, Captain Barder directed Descal to advance to Earth, in order to reclaim the planet their ancestors had been forced to leave long ago. Once the Descal flagship Balgareon reached the Earth, Captain Barder directed the Three Shoguns to collect the Cosmo-Capsules so they could use their power to build an army and take over Earth.
In the original timeline, Captain Barder and the Descal succeeded in gathering the Cosmo-Capsules and used them to conquer the planet, resulting in the Descal reforming into Neo Descal and eventually expanding into a galaxy-spanning empire by the year 2500. In response, a resistance called Sazer-X formed and traveled back in time to stop Descal from invading the planet, arriving in the past just as Barder and his subordinates came to Earth.
After the Descal fought several battles against Sazer-X for possession of the Cosmo-Capsules, Captain Barder summoned the Three Shoguns and had them each present the Capsules they had collected. While Aqual had obtained two and Cyclead had obtained one, Barder was disappointed to see Blaird had not been able to obtain any, leading Blaird to go out and challenge Takuto in order to steal his Lio-1 Capsule. When the fight between the two led onto Balgareon, Barder observed as Blaird and Takuto stumbled into the ship's trash compactor, but did not say anything. When Blaird and Takuto escaped the trash compactor and Blaird returned to his comrades, Barder pretended to have not known where Blaird was.
Barder is later revealed to be a robot when lightning strikes his ship, causing him to malfunction. This revelation caused the Three Shoguns to doubt their mission and ponder what to do now that they no longer had a leader.
What remains of Barder is later obliterated when his ship is destroyed in a battle with Sazer-X.
