Captain Brutus is the secondary antagonist of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. During the New Republic era, he worked under Pirate Captain Silvo with his fellow pirates until a mutiny broke out, and he took Silvo's place as Pirate Captain.
He played by performance artist Stephan Oyoungwas and voiced by Fred Tatasciore, who also voiced Malthus in The Conjuring Universe, Lord Zedd in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, Yosemite Sam in New Looney Tunes, Shao Kahn in the Mortal Kombat Legends duology, Teetsi in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Gahri in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Witch Doctor in Hero Factory and Kakuzu in Naruto.
Personality[]
Brutus was a intimidating and ruthless Shistavanen pirate captain. He was dissatisfied by Silvo's leadership, ultimately leading a mutiny over what he saw as the needless loss of good men for a paltry reward. However, Brutus underestimated the crew's loyalty to Silvo, which many, including Benjar Pranic, considered Silvo a far better captain. This was proven true during Silvo's trial where the crew agreed, Brutus was a capable First Mate.
While it seems Brutus appeared to care about his fellow pirates, he was not above of being physically violent toward them and threaten them with death when they didn't agree with him. After Silvo's escape, Brutus shoved his First Mate Gunter aside, seething with the desire to see his former captain — and the children he had aided — grovel at his feet. He viewed Silvo and the kids as cowards.
During Silvo's trial, Brutus gleefully sentenced him to death, however when Silvo’s own trial was interrupted by the declaration of equal time, Brutus growled in frustration but begrudgingly followed the Pirate’s Code, allowing him to speak. Nevertheless, he scoffed at Silvo’s words, dismissing him as a dead man whose speech meant nothing.
Though Brutus dismissed the treasures of At Attin as mere fables, he reluctantly followed the crew to give Silvo a chance to prove otherwise. Brutus took the opportunity to attempt to quickly speed up Jod's execution, which allowed Jod to get the advantage a few times. When the other pirates became hesitated to execute Silvo, Brutus lost patience, threatening them with the same fate.
But as Silvo’s execution was delayed yet again, Brutus resolved to seize the first opportunity to kill him — regardless of whether the treasure was real. Brutus' arrogance and impatience ultimately lead to his downfall as he didn't think of sending several men with him to check the Onyx Cinder and got captured, which allowed Jod to finally kill him.
Appearance[]
Brutus was a male Shistavanen who wore a black leather outfit featuring a karma and brown armor pieces. He also wore boots and a bandolier that holstered three different blaster pistol models and two blasters holstered at each hip.
History[]
Five years after the fall of the Galactic Empire and the founding of the New Republic, Brutus was formerly a member of pirate captain Silvo's pirate gang until he and other members of Silvo's gang began to rebel against Silvo and captured Silvo during his last raid.
Later, when four children from the planet At Attin; Wim, Neel, Fern, and KB, arrived at Port Borgo on a ship called the Onyx Cinder, Brutus and his fellow pirates captured them and interrogated them before throwing them into a dungeon. Brutus demanded to know how the younglings and their droid got past their coordinates and cannons.
When Fern challenges Brutus, Neel tells her not to aggravate him. Brutus then ordered that they be locked in the brig, prompting Wim to ask what a brig was. They met Silvo and decided to work together to escape the dungeon.
But when the four children were escaping with Jod Na Nawood (who was actually Silvo), Brutus and the other pirates tried to stop them from escaping, but they managed to escape in their starship, and he set a bounty on all of them.
Later, the bounty hunter Pokkit reported to Brutus that she had seen Silvo and the four children on Lanupa, and he and his fellow pirates went to the Skull Ridge Mountain Hotel & Spa to capture them. Brutus and the other pirates captured Silvo and were forced to retreat when a squadron of New Republic X-Wing fighters arrived and attacked them.
And when he held Silvo's trial on a pirate frigate, Brutus found Silvo guilty and sentenced him to death in an airlock, but Chaelt, in accordance with pirate regulations, demanded that Silvo be tried at the equal time. Reluctantly allowing Silvo to have equal time, Brutus activated the blue plasma hourglass.
During the equal time, Silvo revealed to him and the other pirates the way to At Attin, the fabled planet that Tak Rennod disappered to was real and convinced the other pirates set off with Silvo towards At Attin based on Silvo's information. When Brutus and his pirate companions arrived at the barrier of At Attin, Brutus attempted to convince the crew that Silvo had lied about the treasure and again wanted to kill him.
But Silvo insulted his intelligence, forcing Brutus to send Glerb in a starfighter to fly towards the barrier but was killed inside it. Taking advatage of this, Brutus pushed Silvo into the airlock but the other pirates were reluctant to execute their former captain.
Even though Silvo was about to die in the airlock, the Onyx Cinder suddenly appeared out from hyperspace, and Silvo said that with the help of that ship, he and the other pirates would be able to pass through the barrier and reach At Attin, so Brutus and his companions used a tractor beam to capture the Onyx Cinder. While heading to the ship's hangar, Brutus threatened to kill Jod again, in front of several members, regardless if he was right about the treasure at At Attin.
When Brutus and the other pirates ordered the passengers of the Onyx Cinder to come out and surrender, he was caught in a cargo arm, and was subsequently shot dead in the head by Silvo, who then took back command of his gang after Butus' death.
