~ Captain Hero |
Captain Leslie Hero, better known as Captain Hero, is one of the main protagonists of the animated series Drawn Together.
Despite being depicted as a "superhero", he arguably most often wears the behavior of a villainous character, and almost always uses his superhero talents in the worst situations, or using them to his advantage. Practically he is a satire and parody of Superman and other superheroes.
He was voiced by Jess Harnell, who has also voiced the Hot Topic Manager and Mickey Mouse within the same show, some of the Spooky Island Demons in Scooby-Doo, Ripper Roo and Pinstripe Potoroo in the N. Sane Trilogy, some of the Bandar Log in The Jungle Book 2, and Lock in Kingdom Hearts.
Biography[]
A chauvinistic, lecherous, and sociopathic superhero with a frat-boy mentality, who frequently lapses into violent and perverted behaviour, Captain Hero is a macho parody of comic book heroes like Superman (specifically, his design is a poke at Bruce Timm's animated version of Superman). His first name is Leslie, though he is embarrassed when people call him that.
He is the creator of the League of Heroes, Earth's premiere superhero team and a parody of the Justice League of America. Originally from the planet Zebulon (which he later destroyed in a misguided attempt to prove himself), his parents had him aborted and sent the fetus hurtling towards the sun when it was revealed that he would be the lamest superhero ever born; the pod carrying him went off course, though, and he ended up surviving and being raised on Earth. In his other life, he fights crime and reports to a city commissioner; he has a cave, like Batman, as well as a "Pillowfort of Isolation", a parody of Superman's Fortress of Solitude. Unlike many superheroes, Hero has spent most of his career without a sidekick because no one else will work with him, mainly due to his anti-social behavior.
Hero even went so far as to create a fictitious one (the title "character" in "Captain Girl") out of jealousy, though in that same episode, Wooldoor Sockbat eventually becomes his first permanent sidekick. Despite Hero's reputation for being a terrible superhero, and despite the fact that many other superheroes clearly exist in the show's reality, the world still seems to rely on Hero a great deal. On several occasions, a news anchor has broken off in the midst of reporting on a crisis to exclaim in panic, "Captain Hero, where are you?", despite his efforts often causing more harm than good.
The episode "Nipple Ring-Ring Goes to Foster Care" suggests that he became known as Captain Hero after he was caught having sex with a hero sandwich in public, as a result of him pulling a cruel prank on his 12-year-old self through a time transcending communication device. However, elsewhere in the series, it is indicated that Hero is his actual name, creating another instance of the show's willingness to sacrifice established continuity for the sake of a joke.
Hero's age is given as 28 in the first season, but by the time of "Captain Hero's Marriage Pact", he is at least 30 years old, seemingly providing an exception to the rule that cartoon characters never age. In "Xandir and Tim, Sitting in a Tree", he states (in the guise of his alter ego Tim Tommerson) that he has lived for "thirty-some-odd years". Judging from the events in "Terms Of Endearment", in which Hero span the earth around so fast, that it sent him to before the universe existed, Hero then waited possibly billions of years to the present day. This would make Hero even older than the universe itself, however, given the series loose canon this is debatable.
In Drawn Together Babies, Captain Hero was revealed to have the opposite personality when he was a baby. He was very obedient to the rules and he would tell off any of the other babies to his parents if they ever did anything to break them. Basically, Captain Hero acted exactly like a superhero as a baby and strangely enough, didn't use any of his superpowers.
It's possible that he either didn't develop them yet or know how to use them as a baby. Although this is the personality that he was mainly given in the episode, Captain Hero didn't exactly go through the transformation that the rest of the Drawn Together babies did in this episode. The transformation we went through was the one that gave him the personality trait of necrophilia as he was seen molesting Charlotte's corpse in the abandoned refrigerator, but this may have also triggered him to break the rules as this is what caused him to keep it a secret from his parents that the other babies had killed the babysitter and this must have stuck with him.
Though never stated explicitly, it is strongly implied that he and his parents are Jewish, as he calls his mother "Ima" (אִמָא), Hebrew for "mother" (also used in its plural form, "Imahot" (אִמָהוֹת) in "Little Orphan Hero") and has been seen to observe Sabbath rituals; this is part of a running gag of Jewish in-jokes throughout the series (creators Dave Jeser and Matt Silverstein are both Jewish). Since Captain Hero is a parody of Superman, these jokes may also be references to similar hints of Judaism in Superman's background; like Jeser and Silverstein, Superman creators Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel were both Jewish. Captain Hero's homeworld is also called Zebulon which may be a reference to one of the ten lost tribes of the Israelites.
The episode "Unrestrainable Trainable" reveals that Captain Hero has a sister, Captain She-Ro (a parody of She-Ra), who gave birth to his son, having gotten Hero's sperm from a sperm bank, not knowing that the donor was actually her brother; as a result of the inadvertent inbreeding, their child is a mentally handicapped giant. That same episode also reveals that Hero attended college at Howard University, a historically black college in Washington, D.C.. He also attended a superhero college.
In the episode "Charlotte's Web of Lies," Captain Hero's archnemesis is revealed to be Scroto (a parody of Lex Luthor), who continuously tricks Captain Hero into washing his testicles through elaborate schemes.
Despite his appearance, Captain Hero is not human, but hails from a race called Zebulonians.
Personality[]
Of all the housemates, Captain Hero saw the most character development over the series. In fact, the fans complained that he might have had too much development, as he was the central focus of so many episodes, while Princess Clara, Wooldoor Sockbat, Foxxy Love, Toot Braunstein, Xandir, Ling-Ling, and Spanky Ham were practically relegated into his supporting cast. But the writers had reasoned that this was largely due to him being the easiest character for whom to write.
Captain Hero's relationships with the other characters also seem to be the most obvious and fleshed out. He is best friends with Spanky and Wooldoor (and is occasionally friends with benefits with the latter), and he appears to be on fairly good terms with Clara and Foxxy. He seems to have very little relationship with Ling-Ling, and he, like the other housemates (save for Xandir, at times), seems to absolutely, utterly despise Toot. However, Xandir is probably the one with whom he shares his deepest connection, as the two can be confidants with each other over the most personal of things. In fact, by the series conclusion, the two even fall in love and, if not for the accidental erasing of the entire cast, likely would've ended up in a romantic relationship.
Hero is extremely deranged, egotistical, immature, cowardly, stupid, violent, narcissistic, sociopathic and is often shown continually, almost deliberately, missing the point; for example, he thinks that an AIDS walk is a race and begins training for it in order to prove that he can excel in sports. He is also prone to making bad jokes (whereas he says the same of the Qur'an in "Dirty Pranking No. 2"). Hero also has poor decision-making skills, as he once tears out Xandir's intestines because he thinks Xandir is someone else and dresses up as a girl to go to a keg party, which results in Hero being gang raped. (This later makes headlines that announce "Best Kegger Ever".)
He cries often, and frequently dresses and acts like a teenage girl or a woman. He also acts like a small child on occasion; in "Super Nanny", he is shown to wet the bed and still wear diapers, in addition to throwing a childlike temper tantrum. He likes to rub his own nipples when he is excited or aroused. He usually learns a moral at the conclusion of any story, although the moral he always learns is extremely minor in comparison to the one he should be learning, this is mainly due to his large ego. For example, in "Ghostesses in the Slot Machine", instead of realizing that he shouldn't endanger the world for the sake of personal gain, all he takes away from the experience is that Indians should not be allowed to have casinos. He is prone to screaming his catphase "NOOOOOOO!" very loudly and looking up toward the sky, a parody of the way comic book characters overdramatize sad situations on their part; this joke was used most prominently in "Terms of Endearment".
Hero's other, but rarely used catchphrase is "Save yourselves!", which he usually shouts while flying away from any situation that throws the housemates into mortal peril. He is also known to utter the line "Once again, Captain Hero has saved the day!" even though he clearly hasn't; furthermore, his reckless and idiotic antics are usually what caused the problem in the first place. Many of Captain Hero's lines resemble those used by Superman on the front of old comic covers that portray him as less than sympathetic [2]; while some of these instances are misleadingly taken out of context, Hero's violent, anti-social and destructive behavior is consistent with his character.
Despite his role as protector of humanity, Hero displays extremely little reverence for human life; in fact, his many misdeeds throughout the series carry the stamp of a dangerous sociopath, though usually, it appears that Hero simply acts without thinking of the consequences, though it is implied that he may deliberately refuse to take responsibility for the various trouble he causes. As stated above, in "Ghostesses in the Slot Machine", he puts the world at risk to make money on a crooked gambling scheme, and in another episode, he wipes out his own race by destroying his home-world of Zebulon solely to prove a point to his parents. In "The Lemon-AIDS Walk", while under the influence of steroids, he slaughters the rest of the Drawn Together household as well as a 12-year-old girl and a donkey, and later kills or maims all the participants of the AIDS Walk except Foxxy, believing it is a race.
In "Wooldoor Sockbat's Giggle-Wiggle Funny Tickle Non-Traditional Progressive Multicultural Roundtable!", when the character parodying the Terminator is gunning down patrons in the bar to get to Wooldoor, Hero swoops in and announces that he is going to activate his "Hero Shield", then grabs an innocent woman and holds her in front of himself to take the bullets that Hero, having been mentioned in previous episodes as being impervious to bullets, should be able to deflect by himself (though in "Clum Babies", he dies instantly after Bob the Cucumber shoots him in the head). In "Spelling Applebee's", when he discovers that Princess Clara is sexually aroused by car crashes, he causes numerous crashes in order to bring her to orgasm; he then temporarily stops the crashes, though he only does this to frustrate her rather than to save lives. Later, when he discovers Clara is using him, he arranges for her friends to be killed in another crash as an act of revenge, then states, "And remember, kids, never mess with the emotions of a dangerous lunatic."
These actions suggest that Hero may have severe mental health problems. Hero is frequently prone to violent and aggressive behavior, has caused much harm to many of the housemates, the best examples are tearing off Toot's arm, ripping out Xandir's colon, as well as showing extreme physical aggression toward him, violently kicking Clara to the ground, punching her hard in the face and killing all the housemates in a steroid-induced rage, as well as causing the deaths of many people on the show, Hero's arguably worst act ever was in the episode, "Little Orphan Hero" where he threw his home planet into the sun, practically wiping out his own race, these actions further indicate Hero's mental unbalance and his sociopathic tendencies. Hero is also responsible for a high amount of property damage in the series.
Hero is immensely stupid, nearly to the point of being Mentally Defective and he is shown to have a short attention span and is also shown to have a poor memory (such as when he mistook Xandir for being a real Supervillain in Little Orphan Hero, even though they had planned it so Hero could impress his visiting parents, who believed him to be a terrible superhero). Despite being a superhero, Captain Hero is often extremely oblivious and uncaring to the dangers citizens and the housemates are in, (with some of these dangers often being caused by himself) and when he himself has included in these life-threatening situations, he will often be more concerned with saving himself rather others.

Villainous Acts[]
Season 1[]
- In Hot Tub, Captain Hero wishes for a 12-year-old girl and a donkey, showing he is both a pedophile and a zoophile. Later in that episode, he mentions chicks being dead would not stop him from fondling a woman, showing he is open to necrophilia as well. He then intentionally gropes Foxxy and Clara whilst breaking up a fight between them.
- In Gay Bash, Captain Hero hanged Bizarro Captain Hero.
- In The Other Cousin, Captain Hero trampled an old lady in a wheelchair.
- In Dirty Pranking No. 2, Captain Hero threatened to kill Xandir over a joke and left Ling-Ling in an unventilated car on a hot day.
- In Terms of Endearment, Captain Hero used his X-Ray vision to watch Clara, Foxxy, and Toot in the shower and continued to watch Foxxy all the time. Eventually, his X-ray vision gave her a brain tumor which caused her to pass out and turn into a racist stereotype. When she first passed out, he attempted to rape her, without feeling and sensitivity at first and was stopped by the rest of the housemates. However, Captain Hero felt very guilty about this afterwards and even crippled himself to accept what he deserves. However, at the end of the episode, he altered all of the space time continuum and recreated the universe to make everyone in there made out of boobs. However, he realized what an asshole he was at the end.
Season 2[]
- In The One Wherein There Is a Big Twist, Part II, Captain Hero becomes sexually aroused by Strawberry Sweetcake.
- In Foxxy vs The Board of Education, Captain Hero tore off Toot's head.
- In Little Orphan Hero, Captain Hero caused a ton of crimes. He threw his home planet into the sun and killed all of the Zebulonians who lived there. He also raped a robot, his parents, and Xandir, tore out Xandir's intestines, and ate an unborn whale fetus.
- In Captain Hero's Marriage Pact, Captain Hero threatened to kill Wooldoor twice.
- In Ghostesses in the Slot Machine, Captain Hero gambled on his own battles, beat up an old lady, and stole a chip from her.
- In Super Nanny, Captain Hero caused a large variety of crimes once again. He destroyed a Supermarket with his laser eyes, blowing it to bits and terrorizing all of the people in there, and later destroyed a restaurant and snapped the neck of his waiter, killing him. He later got into an argument with Toot, beat her multiple times, eventually tore her arm off, and finally killed her and buried her body underground. However, Captain Hero did learn his lesson after he was done. However, he was still seen doing villainous things afterwards. It was mentioned that there were some wadded up tissues and a book of crime scene photos under his bed, and he was also shown to have a woman's dismembered finger in his mouth. He later refused to save the day when Super Nanny was trying to dominate the White House. However, this was only because he was forced not to, and he later did defeat her afterwards.
- In Captain Girl, Captain Hero ignored a cable car that plummeted to the ground, where everyone died and blamed it on Wooldoor.
- In Xandir and Tim Sitting in a Tree, he smashed his head against Xandir's skull, making it bleed and killed him, fired a cannon at him, and attacked Xandir multiple times for dating his alter ego, Tim Tommerson, knowing that he himself was "Tim" exploring his gay side.
- In The Lemon-AIDS Walk, hits Xandir with his racket whilst playing Badminton claiming it 'interference'. Later Captain Hero starts taking steroids which caused him to go on a roid rage, where he stole money from all of his housemates, and even physically attacked Xandir while he was in the shower, smashed Ling-Ling with a hammer, killing him, and also tore out Toot's intestines while she was sleeping, and stole all of Foxxy's money. When confronted, he attacked and eventually killed all of his other housemates, including a 12 year old girl and a donkey. At the AIDS walk, Captain Hero beat up and killed all of the other walkers and blew up a lot of things with his powers.
- In A Very Special Drawn Together Afterschool Special, Captain Hero played Xandir's father who beat his wife and gay bashed his son. He later switched over to playing Xandir's mother, where he killed Mary Lou Slutzki (Clara) by throwing her through a wall and hanging her from a tree.
Season 3[]
- In Freaks & Greeks, Captain Hero once again caused a huge series of crimes. He was first seen tearing out a man's heart in a flashback, and possibly killed the mailman, by crushing him behind the door. He also vandalized the Georgeopolis' house by breaking their china as well as committing the sexual act of fucking a eclair in front of the family. Rips off Princess Clara's hair mistaking it for a toupee. He, Wooldoor, and Xandir all then teamed up to cause multiple crimes against the Geogeopolis family, TPing their house, breaking into their home, stealing Mrs. Georgeopolis' panties and the TV, smashing their car with baseball bats while the family was in it, leaving bloody gashes all over the family, and revealing that they were KKK members by burning a cross on their lawn, trying to get them to leave their town. The only punishment that he received for it was getting a restraining order from them. In response, Captain Hero then once again broke into the house and kidnapped Georgina and had her imprisoned in a cage and treated like a got for several days. In the process of this, Captain Hero had Xandir locked in the trunk of their car for several days. He attempted to light their lawn of fire by pouring gasoline on their lawn but stopped in the middle of doing so to return Georgina to her parents, not because he realized that he had caused a crime, but because he realized that she was not a goat. Shortly after returning her to her family, he kidnapped her once again and drove off with her for no reason, however the rocket Toot was in from the side plot, crashes into Captain Hero and Georgina, killing them.
- In Wooldoor Sockbat's Giggle-Wiggle Funny Tickle Non-Traditional Progressive Multicultural Roundtable!, Captain Hero teamed up with The Terminator and throughout the episode, he and him killed a ton of people and destroyed a lot of buildings in attempt to hunt down and kill Wooldoor only out of homophobia.
- In Spelling Applebee's, Captain Hero gets Princess Clara on a date with him by kidnapping her cat, cutting off its paw, then killing it. He mentions having a passed-out college girl in his bedroom. Later he caused numerous extreme car crashes by destroying streets of heavy traffic with his superpowers, injuring and killing people in the process. In total, he caused 7 car crashes. (8 if you count the one where he stopped a car crash from happening by picking a car up off the ground and then discarding it behind him, where it blew up, killing a family of three with it). He also broke the legs of two drunk teenagers and left them on the ground. At the end of the episode, Clara once again dumps him, he then teaches Clara a lesson, by causing another car crash with her friends in it.
- In Unrestrainable Trainable, Captain Hero ties himself to Xandir's nipple ring, scrapping him along as he flies off. He also reveals that he typically uses the pull-out method during sex in mid-flight, causing his sexual partners to be hurled and fall to their deaths. Later he accidentally rips off Xandir's nipple. He later finds out that due to donating sperm in college for financial support, he unintentionally became the father of his own sister's son (whose inbred Zebulonian physiology caused him to become gigantic, mentally deficient, highly irritable, and even at times homicidal, although the penultimate and last traits are likely inherent from Captain Hero, who himself survived an abortion attempt after 3 months in the womb, likely resulting in Hero's own mental issues), since she wanted Zebulonian sperm to father her child. After learning that their son was chained up in the basement he declares that he can be a better parent while also showing his attraction to his sister and implying that he impregnated all of his high school girlfriends, and abandoned them to raise his numerous illegitimate children. He then frees his inbred son and tries to get him to work an honest living as a father-son air-conditioning and heating repair team which actually goes well (excluding a few homicidal outbursts) until an alarm causes Hero's son to have a tantrum and run off in hysteria. When Hero's son heads towards a hug-activated nuke, Hero, tries to convince him to stop with an emotional show tune , which fails. Hero and his sister admit that they both failed as single parents and the two abandon the army fending off their son, causing the nuke to go off and kill thousands. After witnessing this, Hero shows no remorse for allowing a nuke to go off and convinces his sister to conceive another inbred child with him, this time via sexual intercourse, marking the second time Captain Hero has committed incest since he drugged and date-raped his own parents (which also happens to be the method he uses to erase memories).
- In N.R.A.y Ray, Captain Hero accuses Foxxy of raping him, after a break-in at their home causes him to act hysterical and delusional. He then purchases a revolver out of a vending machine, the revolver shoots an Indian of his horse. Feeling safe, he carjacks woman and her baby, accidentally shoots the camera in the confessional room (Blood is shown). He begins keeping watch on the house, prepared to shoot anyone who might be threatening the housemates' safety, including a Chinese food delivery man, who turns out to be a ninja. After killing an innocent squirrel, Hero becomes consumed with a lust for blood and decides to take up hunting, he then buys a bunch of assault weapons and starts killing thousands of animals which even included Bambi's mother and Wooldoor. Captain Hero later states he is dating Bambi's dead mother.
- In Mexican't Buy Me Love, Captain Hero breaks into an elderly farmer's couple house, where he claims they raised him as a baby, although they respond by saying they have never seen him before in their life. The old man reveals that Captain Hero broke his arm and made him were lipstick. After Captain Hero is allowed into the Cool Kids group, he throws pig feces at Xandir's house. Letting the popularity go too much to his head, he dumps Foxxy, then humiliates her by pushing her into a punch bowl table.
- In Lost in Parking Space Part One, Captain Hero and Spanky teamed up against the rest of the housemates in the van and held everyone hostage in the van, threatening to shoot anyone who leaves with a gun. He makes out with Wooldoor and throws him, causing Wooldoor to break his leg. After he seized control over everyone, he and Spanky both built a fire for themselves and left everyone else to die in the cold. In the same episode Captain Hero chops off his own head and survives, after saying "No one really dies," he then invites the viewers at home to try it themselves.
- In Lost in Parking Space Part Two, Captain Hero, along with the rest of the housemates (sans Clara and Foxxy) attempted to kill Xandir as well as eating the dead corpse of Ling-Ling. He also used his laser eyes on the engine of the van, attempting to blow it up.
- In Charlotte's Web of Lies, Captain Hero was drunk driving and he ran over a homeless man, leaving him severely injured and mutilated. He then urinated on his body and shot him in the leg with a grappling hook, which he used to drag him behind the van, as he drove off to the store to get more beer. The next day, Wooldoor looks after the homeless man, and when he asks Captain Hero to take over, he punches Wooldoor in response. He kills Spanky with a crossbow, then kills Clara and Foxxy in the hot tub, and finally gasses Wooldoor.
- In Breakfast Food Killer, Wooldoor mentioned that Captain Hero sodomizes him if he ever sits in his chair. He was later seen diddling a dead corpse in the graveyard.
- In Drawn Together Babies, Captain Hero served as the main antagonist for the episode. He tattled on the other babies for throwing their diapers against the wall and teamed up with Charlotte the babysitter against them. He was also seen diddling Charlotte's corpse at the end of the episode.
- In Nipple Ring-Ring Goes to Foster Care, Captain Hero managed to contact his 12 year old self from the past and he did nothing but abuse him the whole time. Captain Hero pestered his 12 year old self, telling him to do stupid, humiliating, and painful things to torture him as a joke. These things were fucking a hero sandwich four times, dosing the Barn dance with gasoline and lighting it on fire, which eventually drove him to the brink of suicide. He also told him to take a picture of himself fucking a hero sandwich so that he could see it in the future. This got him arrested as this was technically pedophilia and he was thrown in jail. His last request was to "go screw a garbage disposal" which he did. Given that his 12 year old self if the same person as he is, Captain Hero also committed the crimes of public sexual intercourse with a sandwich, lighting a building on fire which killed tons of people, attempted suicide, and hiding child pornography in public.
- In American Idol Parody Clip Show, Captain Hero raped a little boy and killed him.
The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie![]
- Captain Hero interrupts a family's funeral, falls in love with a dead woman called 'Molly' and steals it believing her family kidnapped her, and proceeds to repeatedly have sex with it until he eventually abandons it.
- He also doesn't save Clara from having her arms chopped off when she chose to sacrifice herself to the kingdom's guards, being too distracted with Molly's corpse.
- He also insults an anthropomorphic rhino guard named Ryan over his outfit, saying that the attire makes him look fat. This causes the rhino guard to start crying hysterically. This however was part of Captain Hero’s plan for him, Clara, Ling-Ling, and Xandir to escape prison.

Trivia[]
- In the episode "Nipple Ring-Ring Goes to Foster Care", it's revealed that 'Captain Hero' is actually an embarrassing nickname that was given to Leslie when he was a teenager when he was caught having sex with a hero sandwich. At some unknown time later, Leslie decided to turn the insult into his main superhero persona.
- Given his near indestructible nature, Captain Hero has died the least amount of times out of all the housemates.
- In "Dirty Pranking No. 2", he was, along with the rest of the cast, disintegrated by alien robots.
- In "Clum Babies", he was shot in the head by Bob the Cucumber, being the only named character to intentionally and directly kill Hero.
- In "Freaks and Greeks", Toot accidentally caused a space shuttle to crash into his flying car.
