After the Imperial victory on Hoth, Captain Needa was in charge of Avenger, one of the Imperial Star Destroyers that chased the fleeing Millennium Falcon. When the Millennium Falcon entered the Asteroid Field and hid inside a supposed cave, Needa informed Darth Vader that they were probably destroyed based on the damage they had received from Imperial fire and Asteroids, to which Darth Vader replied that they were alive and ordered Needa to continue the search until they are found.
After the Millennium Falcon escaped from the Exogorth, Captain Needa managed to find it and almost captured it before Han Solo tricked them by landing the ship to the rear of the Avenger's bridge. Then Needa was informed by his men that Falcon had vanished from their scopes to which Needa replied that it's impossible for such a small ship to have a clocking device. When Vader demanded an update on the pursuit, Captain Needa decided to accept full responsibility for his failure and personally apologize to Darth Vader. However, Vader strangled him to death with the Force for his failure and sarcastically accepts his apology.
