Biography
Pike was a pirate captain who had once served under the notorious Captain Avery. At some point, he had lost a hand and replaced it with a spike. He was determined to recover Avery's treasure, which had been taken by his former crewmate Joe Longfoot. He sent his first mate Cherub to find Longfoot and get the information from him. Cherub ended up killing Longfoot but captured the Doctor, who Longfoot had given a clue to the treasure's location to, and brought him to Pike. The Doctor played on Pike's ego, flattering him by calling him a gentleman, and suggested they could do a deal.
The conversation was interrupted by the arrival on Pike's ship of Jacob Kewper, part of a ring of local smugglers, who hoped to enlist Pike's help in the scheme, not realising his identity. Pike took Kewper prisoner but nevertheless travelled to shore with Cherub to meet Kewper's boss Squire Edwards, hoping to get hold of the smugglers' hoard. The Squire accepted Pike and Cherub as potential partners. When the Doctor's friends, Polly and Ben, told the Squire they were the ones behind Longfoot's murder and the Doctor's kidnapping, the Squire sided with his apparent allies, convincing revenue man Josiah Blake to arrest the pair as smugglers. He then showed Pike and Cherub where the smuggled goods were hidden.
Pike returned to his ship but found the Doctor and Kewper had escaped. He killed their guard, Jamaica, for the failure and returned to shore with his crew. Leaving them to loot the smugglers' goods, he headed into the church where Cherub was holding the Doctor, Polly, Ben and the Squire at gunpoint, having attempted to take the treasure for himself. Pike fought with Cherub and killed him, although the distraction allowed Polly and Ben to escape. The Doctor and the Squire offered Pike the treasure and the smugglers' goods in return for leaving the village alone and Pike agreed. The Doctor showed him the treasure was hidden under a flagstone.
At that point, Ben and Blake arrived with a group of militia and a fight broke out in and around the church, with most of Pike's men captured or killed. Pike accused the Doctor of betraying them and tried to kill him but was restrained by the Squire, allowing Blake to shoot and kill him.
