Captain Speer is the main antagonist of the children's book, Code Name Bananas. He is a Nazi warrior who works for Adolf Hitler.

Biography[]
Captain Speer is the commander of a Nazi unit lurking in a U-Boat off the British coast. The most decorated captain in the Nazi navy who personally sunk three British ships at Dunkirk, Speer plans to assassinate Winston Churchill and the entire British government to facilitate a Nazi invasion. Working with elderly Nazi spies Bertha and Helene Braun, Speer is able to learn the location of an off-the-books midnight conference being held by Churchill at Parliament to discuss the war effort, planning to eliminate the entire British government in one fell swoop, comparing it to cutting the head off a chicken.
Speer first appears when Helene and Bertha bring Eric, his uncle Sid, and Gertrude the Gorilla to him. He tells them of his plan, but Eric bluffs him by claiming to have warned Ten Downing Street. He then tells them that he torpedoed the HMS Grafton, whereupon a horrified Eric states that his father was on that warship. Speer shows no remorse and simply states that he will take pleasure in killing Eric, too. Gertrude growls at him, which causes him to step back, but he quickly regains his composure and threatens to shoot Gertrude unless Eric can control her. When Eric tells him that a torpedo won't destroy the Houses of Parliament, Speer explains that the Nazis are not using a torpedo but ramming their U-boat (which is packed with explosives) into the Houses of Parliament. Speer is aware that he and his crew will die, but he considers it an honor. He then leaves our heroes to wallow in their misery.
When the trio gets loose from their bounds and takes out his men as the U-boat begins to get close to its target, Speer personally attempts to kill them, only to be taken down by Gertrude. However, a hole burst in the wall during the commotion ends up causing the U-boat to begin to sink into the Thames.
Unwilling to accept defeat, Speer plans to activate the explosives on board in order to cause as much damage as he still can. When his own men try escaping, Speer calls them cowards and yells that he will kill them all in the explosion, knocking out Eric when he tries to stop him, successfully triggering the detonation.
Luckily, the three heroes are able to make their escape out through the hole of the now fully submerged U-boat, with Captain Speer, the Brown sisters, and every other Nazi on board being killed in the blast.
Personality[]
Speer is a cruel Nazi who wishes to commit mass murder to help the Nazis win the war. He is also a sadist who taunts Eric upon learning that he killed the latter's father.
