Captain Waddle Doo is a major antagonist in the anime Kirby: Right Back at Ya!. He is one of King Dedede's most trusted minions (alongside Escargoon), as well as the commander-in-chief of the Waddle Dee Army. Unlike the rest of his species, Captain Waddle Doo can't use energy beam attacks, instead relying on a short dagger he carries with him.

In Japanese, he was voiced by Chiro Kanzaki in his first appearance and the late Yuko Mizutani for the rest of the show. In English, he was voiced by the late Maddie Blaustein, who also voiced Meowth in the Pokemon anime.

Biography[]

Kirby: Right Back at Ya![]

Waddle Doo appears as a supporting character in many episodes of the series, usually helping the king with whatever schemes he comes up with.

Waddle While You Work[]

In Episode 72, King Dedede starts selling his Waddle Dee servants to the citizens of Cappy Town in order to pay off his debt to Nightmare Enterprises. Tiff asks Waddle Doo to get his army to change their minds and return to Dedede, but he declines as the Waddle Dees seem happy with their new owners. When all of them are sold and the castle is almost entirely empty, Waddle Doo states that he's out of a job and leaves the castle. later, when King Dedede is being attacked by Dyna Blade for mistaking one of her chicks as food, the captain rallies all the Waddle Dees together to save their king. The Dee army is hired back into the castle, and Captain Waddle Doo regains his position as their leader.

Hunger Struck[]

In Episode 92, when King Dedede starts feeding the Waddle Dees paper-thin sandwiches to save money, Waddle Doo is outraged about his underfed Dees. After failing to convince the king to give the Dees more food, he starts a revolt against Dedede, storming the castle as well as the rest of Cappy Town, stealing the townsfolk's food and locking Sir Ebrum and Lady Like in the dungeon.

When Dedede informs the N.M.E. Sales Guy about the revolution, the latter send in Fryclops to save his customer. The Demon Beast quickly pacifies the Waddle Dees by giving them plenty of food. Captain Waddle Doo thanks Fryclops for his help, offering do do whatever he wants to repay him, to which Fryclops orders the army to attack Kirby. Knowing they'll only listen to those that feed them, Kirby gains the Cook ability and starts cooking for the Dees to get them to stop their attack.

Waddle Doo is pleased at first, but soon notices that the Waddle Dees are beginning to get overweight. He states that healthier food is needed, to which Cook Kirby shrinks the meals that Fryclops made and makes the meals that the Waddle Dees ate before the events of the episode. Waddle Doo takes a seat at the dining table with the rest of his army, watching as Cook Kirby destroys Fryclops.

Kirby's Mass Attack[]

Captain Waddle Doom makes a cameo in the Kirby Quest subgame of Kirby Mass Attack, where he appears alongside Escargoon and several Waddle Dees in one of King Dedede's attacks.

Appearance[]

Captain Waddle Doo looks similar to the standard Waddle Doo, being round with stubby limbs, one large blue eye, no visible mouth, and two hairs atop his head. However, Captain Waddle Doo is light orange instead of red, with magenta feet instead of yellow. He also wears a small sheath with which he keeps his dagger.

Personality[]

Captain Waddle Doo is shown to be rather incompetent and forgetful, not even able to remember how many Waddle Dees are in the castle. However, he also cares deeply for his soldiers and can be an effective leader when it comes to them, such as when he lead an uprising against the king for them.

Trivia[]

  • Captain Waddle Doo is the only member of the Waddle Doo species to not use any energy beam attacks.
  • Captain Waddle Doo's Japanese voice is very high-pitched and child-like, while the English dub gives him a much lower voice with a Brooklyn accent.
