~ Captain William Blake |
Captain Blake is the main antagonist of the 1980 horror film The Fog and its 2005 remake.
In the original, he was portrayed by Rob Bottin, who did the special effects for the film, and he was voiced by Charles Nicklin.
In the remake, he was portrayed by Rade Serbedzija, who also played Dmitri Gredenko in 24, Murad Hoxha in Taken 2, Andrei Strasser in Mighty Joe Young, Mikhaylo Sczerbiak in Shooter and Boris the Blade in Snatch.
Biography[]
In the 1800s, Captain William Blake was a wealthy ship captain. He and his crew were sailing at night in a thick fog in search of a place to establish a colony. He and his crew head toward a beacon they see in the distance, but it turns out to be a false beacon set up by a near by town. They crash the boat, with no survivors. The towns people loot the ship and found their town on stolen gold.
Many years later, Blake and his crew return from the dead and seek revenge against the town. Accompanied by a thick and dense fog, they seek to claim the lives of 6 townspeople.
A descendant of the former town owner, the local reverend, discovers his great, great grandfather’s diary detailing the treachery of the townspeople. He also discovers a cross made of gold, Blake’s gold.
When a group of survivors band together in the church, Blake appears personally for the first time with his crew. To save the group, the reverend returns Blake his gold. This seemingly banishes Blake and his crew, but the movie ends with Blake cutting down the reverend.
Abilities and Appearance[]
Though not many of his abilities are shown in the film, he and his crew all seem to be invincible. The fog constantly surrounds them, making it easier to kill their victims. They all wield sea tools and weapons such as hooks, knives, and swords. Blake himself wields a sword.
Like his crew, Blake appears more zombie like than ghostly. He has rotting flesh, raggedy clothes and hair, and a raggedy beard. Unlike his crew, however, Blake’s eyes glow red.

Trivia[]
- Blake and his crew's goals in both the original and the 2005 remake are slightly different as in the original, it's only simply stated Blake and his crew wanted to kill the descendants of the original six founders whereas the remake adds the additional goal of Blake wishing to reunite with his wife via her reincarnation as Elizabeth Williams (who while a supporting character in the original is one of the descendants of the conspirators in the remake).
- Blake is only fully shown in the 2005 remake version, due to the advancement of technology and bigger budget.
