Captain Zahab was the leader of the Space Pirates Balban, the master of Daitanix and the Earth Demon Beast and the main antagonist of Seijuu Sentai Gingaman.
He was voiced by Hidekatsu Shibata who previously voiced General Shadow in Kamen Rider Stronger, the Emperor of Darkness in Great Mazinger, the Omnipotent God in Taiyou Sentai Sun Vulcan, General Jark in Karmen Rider Black RX, Daimaou in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, CC Patchoone in Gekisou Sentai Carranger and later voiced Rasetsu in Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger, Trinoid 21: Reindeersanta in Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger, Land Fist Demon Maku in Juken Sentai Gekiranger and Gyōten'ō of the Supernova in Tensou Sentai Goseiger. Outside of Tokusatsu, he is most well known as Wrath in FullMetal Alchemist.

Past[]
Long ago, when the Daitanix first came into being on his home-world, Zahab met Bucrates, who taught him the means to become immortal by the Planet's Life jewels. Said jewels are created whenever Daitanix consumed the core of a planet. Subjugating Daitanix, by attaching his castle to its back, Zahab gathered an army of followers with the promise of eternal life and boundless treasure from destroyed worlds; four of which (Sambash, Budoh, Iliess, and Battobas) became the generals of the Balban's four armies while a fifth, Steerwoman Shelinda, became his personal lieutenant as well as the steer-woman of Daitanix. One of the worlds he destroyed, was Planet Taurus, home to Kurokishi Bullblack who attempted to stop them before being forced to stand down when the Balban took his younger brother Krantz hostage. However, Zahab personally cut down the boy in front of him and Bullblack was forced to watch his homeworld be destroyed.
Zahab and the rest of the Barban eventually set their sights on Earth. However, though they were repelled by the Gingamen, the chosen protectors of Earth, and the Starbeasts. The Gingamen were victorious over the Barban, with Zahab having his left hand cut off by the original GingaRed, and the Balban were sealed beneath the sea along with Daitanix. He would later replace his severed hand with hook and developed an enmity for all successive GingaReds.
Gingaman[]
In 1997, the seal over the Balban is broken by a mysterious earthquake and they return to being active threats but Daitanix's seal remains intact which forces the Balban to focus on ways to revive him with Zahab offering a massive fortune as a reward to whoever managed to succeed. This causes the Balban generals to start competing using thier separate Majin Corps but, before they start deploying monsters though, Captain Zahab leads them on an attack with the Seamen Yartots only to be intercepted by the new generation of the Gingamen who force them to retreat after a fierce battle. With the new threat, Zahab has to select a general to bring down the Gingamen so the generals present thier top monsters to try and impress Zahab. However, the general is ultimately decided by a game of poker with Sambash being chosen as the winner when he pulls a joker. After Sambash is killed in battle by the Gingamen, Zahab chooses Budoh as the next general of the Balban to fight the Gingamen. Learning of Sambash's discovery of the Lights of Ginga, he assigns the entire Budoh Majin Corps to use various tactics to uncover them.
Eventually, Dark Merchant Biznella's betrayal and manipulation of Degius leads a meteor shower to finally break the seal over Daitanix. Delighted, Zahab begins his apparent final plan. When finally revived, Daitanix easily defeats Super Armor Shine GingaiOh despite the aid of GigaRhinos and GigaPhoenix. However, its long period of inactivity causes its body around its back where the Balban castle stands to decay and the strain of battle further accelerates the damage and forces the Balban to abandon it before claiming a final victory over the Gingamen. Although the Gingamen then destroy Daitanix by exploiting its weakness, the Balban are greatly amused because they know something the Gingamen don't.
As it turns out, a chunk of Daitanix survives and regrows into the stronger Earth Demon Beast. In the final battle, Zahab uses his castle to control the Earth Demon Beast but Zahab is forced to flee from his castle when it is destroyed by BullTaurus so Hyuuga can face him elsewhere. After losing the Earth Demon Beast, Zahab plots to create a new demon beast and is confronted by both the Gingamen and Black Knight. He plans to kill them due to being immortal but Hyuuga and Ryouma combine thier powers for the Mane of Fire attack which destroys the Life Jewel and makes him mortal. The Gingamen then morph so Zahab decides to kill them but is crippled by a combination of Hyuuga's Black Chop and the Galactic Flash. With Zahab mortally wounded, Ryouma finishes him off with the Flame Flash as the captain face-plants and explodes.
A few months after Zahab's death, his longtime friend Captain Gregory comes to Earth to bring back the Balban and continue thier operations. Ultimately, Zahab is the last to be resurrected and thanks his friend but is later killed for good by the Galactic Flash.

Personality[]
Captain Zahab was a completely ruthless and hyper aggressive psychopath obsessed with immortality and Daitanix. However, he was extremely loyal to his crew and a very good friend of Captain Gregory.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: Captain Zahab was able to take down Hyuuga with a single slash.
- Durability: Captain Zahab survived the Black Slash and Galactic Explosion finishers without a scratch.
- Longevity: Captain Zahab lived for over 3000 years but remained just as capable.
- Immortality: Captain Zahab could not die as long as his Planetary Life Jewels remained intact.
- Lightning Breath: Captain Zahab could shoot black lightning from his mouth.
Weaknesses[]
- Planetary Life Jewel Destruction: Captain Zahab was able to die after Ryouma and Hyuuga destroyed his Planetary Life Jewels.

- Cutlass: Captain Zahab had a large pirate cutlas to use in battle.
- Hook Hand: After the original GingaRed cut off his left hand, Captain Zahab replaced it with a razor sharp hook.
- Chain Strike: Captain Zahab could fire his hook hand forth to wrap his enemies up with a chain attached to the hook.
- Cannon Blast: Captain Zahab could change his hook hand into a mini-cannon capable of firing smoke blasts. These were strong enough to take down all five Gingamen and Hyuuga.
