~ Carissa. |
Princess Carissa is a major antagonist of A Certain Magical Index: Old Testament, serving as the main antagonist of the British Royal Family Arc.
She is the middle daughter of Queen Regnant Elizard and the second princess of the United Kingdom. Of the three princesses, she has the aspect of "military might". Upon seeing the perceived weakness of the United Kingdom as the world slowly falls into a war between the Roman Orthodox Church and Academy City, she launches a coup d'état along with the Knights of England using the Curtana Original. Although she usurps power, she fails to completely stop resistance, leading to the British Halloween. Facing opposition from her younger sister, Villian, her allies and Necessarius, she is later defeated at the Battle of Buckingham Palace.
After her defeat she willingly went into the Tower of London for her crimes, but due to her still being one of UK's strongest magicians she has been temporarily released during times of great need, specifically, she was released during World War III and for the fight against GREMLIN.
She was voiced by Kei Shindou in Japanese and Dawn M. Bennett in English
Appearance[]
Carissa is a young woman in her 20s with messy blonde hair tied in the back and blue eyes. She wears a red leather dress which gives off the impression of BDSM-related clothing and a matching skirt that is able to contract or expand into a large size akin to an umbrella. She also wears a pair of red gloves that nearly reaches up to her shoulders and a small golden crown on her head.
Personality[]
Carissa is an extremely arrogant, haughty and proud individual, taking great pride in her position as a princess of the United Kingdom. She's very patriotic to her country, holding the United Kingdom in high regard though she dislikes some of its traditions. She is also quite derisive, asking Touma if he studied any history when he didn't immediately recognize her.
Possessing the trait of military might, Carissa is shown to be incredibly bellicose and jingoistic, enjoying conflict and is willing to go the war with any nation that she deems a threat. She holds particular hatred of France due to the long standing animosity between the French and the British. Given her militant personality, Carissa detest pacifism or anything she's sees as weakness. Due to this, she is estranged from her family, particularly looking down on her younger sister Villian, who represents the trait of "virtue", as pathetic and incompetent, but it's more because she looks down on Villian's timid and nonviolent nature that leads her to rely on others for protection rather than any virtue.
Carissa has a clear vision of what a strong United Kingdom should look like, and will do anything to make it a reality, such as staging a coup against her family to seize power. Moreover, Carissa is very ruthless and cold, willing to kill her own family to achieve her ambition. She was even willing to kill the Knight Leader after he turned against her. Despite this, she is shown to be a highly charismatic and persuasive leader, able to rally her troops into helping her coup d'état. After assuming power, Carissa displays a more cruel, despotic and oppressive nature. However, its revealed that Carissa does sincerely want to protect the United Kingdom and turn it into a formidable superpower once again. She's fully willing to accept that she'll be seen as a tyrant by history if she can really protect England that way.
Aside from this, Carissa demonstrates a quirky side just like her mom and sisters, and she was the one who first willingly posed for Touma when he decided to take a picture of the royal family. In addition, Carissa has a tendency to place objects in her cleavage due to not having any pockets. She is also capable of showing respect for certain individuals, as shown with Touma upon learning he fought and defeated the French terrorists on the plane. She was also willing to team up with the Maiden of Versailles against Archangel Gabriel, despite their shared hatred of one another and their respective countries.
Biography[]
Carissa is the second princess of the United Kingdom and one of the three daughters of the Queen Regent Elizard. She represent the aspect of military affairs and to that extent, is the most skilled when it comes to warfare and combat. After the United Kingdom made treaties Academy City and France, combined with the Roman Orthodox Church slowly gaining greater influence over Europe, Carissa began to view her country as weak and believed that it would soon fall into ruin and sought to prevent this by any means.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Magical Precognition: Carissa can use magic to gain a supernatural sixth sense, allowing her to feel the flow of battle and enemies and enabling her to react faster and perform attacks with higher precision.
- Illusion Magic: When threatening the Knight Leader with shooting dozens of bunker cluster missiles at the forces gathered to defeat her, Carissa also stated she would hide one of the missiles with an illusion so that his Thororm's Formula wouldn't catch it. It can be assumed she is capable of casting an illusion to hide things from plain sight.
- Curtana Original: A spiritual item that applies the concept of Archangel Michael, the leader of the angels, to the head of state within the United Kingdom. Only a member of the Royal Family can use this blade. The sword is like a conductor’s baton that controls the massive spell put together geographically by the 4 cultures that make up the United Kingdom and grants Carissa the power of an Archangel through the use of Telesma, including supernatural strength, endurance, speed, and near invincibility as long as she on Britain soil. She can also use Curtana Original to empower the Knights of England with Telesma, as they are identified as the army of angels that serves the head of state.
- All Dimensions Severing Spell: A powerful spell that allows Carissa to slice through dimensions and create dimensional debris from her attack. According to her, this debris is the only part that human eyes can comprehend since humans only perceive up to three dimensions, whereas Curtana Original can slice through all of them both higher and lower. This also means that she can essentially slice through any defense, magical or physical. By borrowing a portion of Archangel Michael's power, this spell can allow someone to kill the Holy Guardian Angel Aiwass who exists in the Pure World, assuming that one could land a hit.
- Omnidirectional Explosion: By stabbing Curtana Original into the ground and releasing the energy within, Carissa can create a massive explosion of telesma energy that wipes out a large portion of forest and is so powerful that it cannot be fully negate by the Imagine Breaker. However, doing so isn't a function the sword is designed to safely perform.
- Ultimate Strike: Before the assault at Buckingham Palace, Knight Leader confessed to Acqua that while he was ultimately unable to combine all of his pattern magic into a sure-fire attack that could not be evaded, blocked, or countered, Carissa could most likely pull it off using Curtana Original. However, the truthfulness of this statement is uncertain, as she hasn't been shown to use any of the patterns.
- Curtana Second Shards: After losing Curtana Original, Carissa can use the shards of Curtana Second as weapons. shards can project a sword of light that cuts through dimensions (though this doesn't create dimensional debris as a side-effect like the Curtana Original does, likely because of the difference in power) to slash anything in its path. The shards also empower Carissa in a similar way to the Curtanas, allowing her to fight opponents like the Maiden of Versailles, Kaori Kanzaki or even the incomplete Archangel Gabriel. Carissa can increase the length of the swords of light, reaching over 1500 meters. Carissa initially carried 13 of these shards, though one of them was destroyed by Gabriel, and has been shown to be able to dual-wield them.
Abilities[]
High Intelligence: While not having an incredible intellect like her elder sister Riméa, Carissa is very intelligent, especially in matters of magic and warfare.
