~ Carla Dosa to Lionel Snill. |
Carla Dosa is the overarching antagonist of the second installment in Daniel Mullin's connecting game series The Hex. She is a senior game developer formerly working under her childhood friend Lionel Snill. She is the creator of Sado, and a minor character throughout most games.
Personality[]
Carla Dosa is a supportive friend before she begins working under Lionel. She voices how she's proud of him for making Super Weasel Kid, and tells him not to let the haters get to his head when he produces his more controversial Super Weasel Kid 2: Radical Road. However, sometime after Lionel hires her to develop for him, bribing her with large wages, she complies and begins to grow more sour of him over the course of the game. Carla and Lionel frequently feud over choices to be made for their games, and despite Carla often winning over their employees, this causes Lionel to treat her more poorly over the course of the game which she voices her distaste of through glitches and collision breaks in Secrets of Legendaria, where she appears to give up on her drive to make the game better as Lionel would likely take credit anyway. Carla seems to still hold a grudge against Lionel, or at least still messes with him past being fired as she contributes to the modding community of Waste World which he vocally has distain for. In a conversation between Carla and Lionel, it's shown clearly that by the end of the game Carla lost all respect she had for him when they were kids.
Biography[]
Background[]
When Carla and Lionel were children, they were close friends. Lionel claims that Carla was the only friend he had, and their established ties are what led them to begin making games together in the future.
Super Weasel Kid[]
Carla's reviews can be seen throughout the Super Weasel Kid games, where she is very supportive of Lionel. Stating that she's proud of him for developing the first game, which had already been well-reviewed by then. When Lionel releases the second installment of the series, she still remains supportive of him and encourages Lionel not to let the negative reviews get him down. However, when Lionel sold out and the series was sold to GameFuna, Carla question his choices and displayed clear disapproval, finally leaving a negative review on the game.
Combat Arena X[]
Lionel gathered a larger developer team for his game Combat Arena X after making money from selling Super Weasel Kid. One of the members of the team were Carla Dosa, who Lionel paid a huge sum of money to join development. However, Lionel would soon grow to question his choice as Carla would prove frustrating for him to put up with while developing, as she encouraged Lionel to add more women to the game. Lionel was against the decision, claiming his character "Steambot Willy" was nonbinary, but eventually Carla succeeded in making him comply, as Lionel made Chandrelle Stormblaze a fighter, and Carla made Sado. Lionel greatly disliked Sado however, finding the character creepy and coming to notice that once Sado was made she began causing coding errors in Lionel's games, making it more difficult to develop. Carla claimed that Sado was made by "pushing Gameworks to its limits", and Sado ended up never being removed despite being considerably "OP". However, Chandrelle ended up being removed for reasons which Carla argued were just because Lionel didn't like her. Despite the controversy that came with Chandrelle's removal, the decision was final.
Secrets of Legendaria[]
During the development of Secrets of Legendaria, Carla heavily pushed for Chandrelle to be the main protagonist. Despite Lionel trying to go against it, the developer team was on Carla's side and in the end Chandrelle was made the protagonist. Because of this, it's likely that Lionel held a grudge against her and began treating her poorly as an employee of his. She exploits broken collisions in the game rather than patching them, and using them to help the player progress by providing infinite item generators and shortcuts throughout the game. Eventually, when the game flops Lionel ditches his developer team, and steals all their severance funds. Carla, included.
Waste World[]
During Waste World's unfinished state, Carla joins in on the modding community creating the "boss rush" mod. It's unknown if Sado being a boss in the mod was implemented by Carla herself, or if Sado was originally a part of the game. However, since Carla no longer works under Lionel by this point and Lionel expresses his disliking of Sado further into the game, it can be assumed that she was added into the mod. Despite this, Carla claims she had no involvement with the modding community in interviews.
Walk[]
Carla is mentioned throughout Walk, Lionel vents to the player in his developer commentary how frustrated he was dealing with Carla as a developer and explains all his gripes he had with her and Sado, while still acknowledging that she was his only friend. Carla's desk can be seen in one section of the game as well.
Beneath the Surface[]
Beneath the Surface is a game developed by Carla on steam, it is a simple fishing simulator and time waster that can be downloaded for free. Lionel claims in a hidden conversation that she had wanted to develop it for a while, and in a conversation Carla was asked to add a file into the game recorded by Lionel. She grudgingly agrees, before blocking him. However, when accessed by the player Sado will infect their computer once the recording ends and whether or not Sado infected it herself or Carla implemented the virus is unclear.
