Carlo Rossi became a member of Roman Sionis's criminal organization, known as Black Mask. Due to his boss's alliance with the Galante Crime Family, he participated in the massacre of the Bertinelli family, alongside Victor Zsasz and Happy, under the command of Galante crime boss Stefano Galante. The Bertinellis were killed to steal a diamond that would allow Stefano and Black Mask access to the Bertinellis' vast fortune. However, the diamond disappeared, leaving the mission half-successful.
Fifteen years later, Carlo was dining with his men at a restaurant when a mysterious hooded woman approached them. Upon Carlo's taunt, she shot his men before revealing herself as Helena Bertinelli, the sole survivor of the Bertinelli family massacre, and then firing an arrow into Carlo's neck, killing him within seconds. His death and that of his men were later investigated by Detective Renee Montoya.
