Biography[]
Past[]
He had a relationship with an unnamed woman and they had a son Oscar Guzman. However, the relationship fell through, and he lost touch with his son after his mother moved them. Zapataro subsequently joined a gang and committed several drug related crimes, earning a record.
Eventually, he and his son reconnected and but Zapataro was really manipulating him for his own agenda. Oscar showed him the apartment building his family were living at (owned by Officer Kevin Atwater), taking his father to the basement that hung out with his friends. Zapataro got the idea to hide his stash there, instructing Oscar not to tell anyone.
The Bleed Value[]
Oscar and a friend stumbled upon Zapataro's gun, playing with it before it went off and shot Oscar's friend by accident. Panicked, Oscar fled the scene with his father's items, knowing the incriminating evidence would implicate him. Oscar went home and hid the evidence in his room, to protect his father.
After Intelligence investigate, they find footage of Oscar with a bloody duffle bag and after identifying him, they discover the drugs. Oscar's family vouched for him, as did Atwater's father Lew who couldn't believe Oscar got mixed up in this mess. Oscar was found but refused to talk, leading Intelligence to look into his family, discovering his father who had a history.
They track Zapataro to a bar, where they find him with Lew Atwater, who discovered his role in the crime. The two were conversing a deal, though CPD barged in and Zapataro panic and took Lew hostage, holding him at knifepoint. Zapataro demanded to be let go but Lew used his focus on the cops to break free and elbow his face, leaving him with a bruised nose. Intelligence detained him and brought him to the district.
Zapataro is charged with holding Lew captive and his drug related crimes, before giving him the option to admit to owning the gun for a lesser sentence and sparing his son prison time. However, he refuses to fess up to the gun and drugs, despite them acknowledging it was his. He is soon reprimanded for selfish behavior because he was going to prison regardless. Zapataro firmly states he won't admit to new charges before he is condemned by the cops of letting his child take the rap for these charges. Unmoved, Zapataro states that he doesn't care what happens to his own son and pins Oscar's deeds solely on him.
Seeing they weren't getting anywhere, they move to Oscar and Kevin informs him of his father's arrest and that he was going to show him the video of his interrogation. He warns him ahead of time this was not to hurt him but show him how Zapataro doesn't deserve Oscar's loyalty. The video plays and Oscar is devastated that his father doesn't care for him and that he is willing to let him go to prison, despite his helping him. After Kevin stops the video, Oscar breaks into tears and asks that he still be allowed to visit his father in prison if he tells the truth about him. Kevin agrees and Oscar reveals that he saw his father dealing with people in the city.
Thanks to Oscar's words, all the people that Zapataro sold to are found and identify him through a line-up. As a result, the drug and gun charge are placed on him while Oscar is exonerated. Kevin later tells his father that Zapataro is looking at life in prison, while Oscar returned to his mother and sister. The Atwaters were relieved that Oscar wasn't dragged down with his callous father.
