Carter is a minor antagonist of the BBC British soap opera television show EastEnders.

He was portrayed by Michael McKell, who also played Nick Henshall in Emmerdale.

History

Nothing is known about Carter other than the fact he is a contract gangland hitman who works for a notorious drug lord named John Corley and operates the latter's criminal operations in Walford, a fictional borough in East London, on his behalf.

Soon enough towards Christmas 2004, Carter is sent by his boss to negogiate a deal with Walford's reigning crime boss Andy Hunter in order to start a criminal association between the latter and Mr. Corley himself for the new year. It is then Carter meets up with Andy and his henchman, Eddie, to remind them of the preparations for their upcoming drug trade. However, they face a troubling issue when Andy's employee Paul Trueman gets arrested by the police detectives who are investigating both Andy and Corley.

The detectives later force Paul to help them entrap both Andy and Corley in a sting operation. They succeed in getting Corley arrested and jailed, but Andy escapes the sting operation and returns to the square - where Carter is waiting for him. Carter tells Andy about how the set-up has gotten Corley imprisoned, and that Corley never asked a lawyer in response to this; Corley wants to know who grassed him up and then kill them. Carter gives Andy his phone number and instructs him to call once he learns who grassed them up.

Soon enough, Andy learns that Paul grassed him up and informs Carter about this; it is then Andy authorizes Carter to kill Paul so that Corley wouldn't suspect that Andy is responsible. Carter later confronts Paul and threatens to go after his family unless he accepts his fate. That night, Paul surrenders and allows Carter to take him out of the square. Carter later kills Paul offscreen on Andy's orders with Corley's sanction.

A few months later in January 2005, Paul's murder becomes public knowledge when Andy's gangland rival Johnny Allen arranges for his body to be discovered as part of his plan to usurp Andy from his reigning status. However, the authorites were unable to fully implicate Andy for his role in Paul's murder - thus neither Carter nor his boss were officially deemed responsible by the detectives who were investigating them months ago.
