Cassandra Davina and Doug Loveless are the main antagonists of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Bombshell". They are a brother and sister team of con artists - as well as lovers - who grift married men.
Cassandra was portrayed by Rose McGowan, who also portrayed Courtney Shayne in Jawbreaker, Marique in Conan the Barbarian, Evil Paige Matthews in Charmed, Debbie Strand in Devil in the Flesh, the young Cora Mills in Once Upon a Time, and Dr. Theodora "Teddy" Rowe in Nip/Tuck, while Doug was portrayed by Ryan Hurst, who also portrayed Beta in The Walking Dead and Thor in God of War.
Overview[]
Cassandra and Doug are fraternal twins who work together as con artists, preying on married men whom Cassandra seduces in swinger's clubs. Their M.O. is for Cassandra to tell their victim that Doug is her ex-boyfriend and has threatened her; Doug then pretends to attack her so the victim will give her money to help her, only for Doug and Cassandra to disappear once the money runs out. They run their scam all over the country, using multiple aliases, with Doug killing at least one of their victims.
They are also lovers who see each other as soulmates and are intensely jealous and possessive of each other, with Doug being particularly violent toward their victims because he cannot stand the idea of Cassandra being with other men.
Shortly before the events of the episode, they began conning Jerry Bullard, an engineer who had an open relationship with his wife, Jane. He fell in love with Cassandra, who told him that she was being stalked and harassed by her ex-boyfriend - Doug. Bullard stole from his own family to keep Cassandra in the lifestyle to which she was accustomed, embezzling from Jane's bank account and draining his daughter Janette's college fund.
"Bombshell"[]
When Bullard is found drunkenly wandering the streets with a knife in his crotch, Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler of the NYPD's Special Victims Unit investigate his assault as an attempted murder.
A witness describes having seen the wounded Bullard walking out of a swinger's club called The Swing Set, so Benson and Stabler go undercover as a swinging couple to find out if he had been attacked by a jealous lover. Stabler meets Cassandra, who immediately tries to seduce him and tells him that Doug tried to kill her, Jerry, and Jane in the club the week before. The following night, Doug storms into the club and attacks Stabler, whom he believes is their next target, but Stabler overpowers and arrests him with help from Benson and Detective Fin Tutuola.
Stabler interrogates Doug, who denies having anything to do with Bullard's injuries. Bullard himself wakes from a coma and identifies Jane as his assailant. She confesses to stabbing her husband after finding out that he had been stealing from her to fund his relationship with Cassandra. The detectives arrest Jane and reluctantly let Doug go, while Captain Donald Cragen assigns Benson and Stabler to follow him to make sure he does not hurt Cassandra, who disappeared moments after Doug's arrest. When they find her, however, they discover that she and Doug are lovers and that they both conned Bullard, so they arrest them for fraud.
Benson and Stabler separate the couple, with Benson interrogating Doug and Stabler interrogating Cassandra. Doug taunts Benson that their victims will never testify against them, while Cassandra says that Bullard gave her money because he loves her. The detectives threaten to have them extradited to Miami, Florida, where they are wanted for murder. Bullard hires a lawyer to defend Cassandra and posts her bail, while Doug is given an inept public defender to represent him and is put in jail.
DNA from the Miami crime scene reveals Doug's skin cells under the victim's fingernails; it also proves that Doug and Cassandra are siblings. Benson and Stabler tell a horrified Bullard that his "soulmate" is engaged in incest, but it only makes him more determined to protect her. He bails Doug out of jail, kidnaps him, brings him to his house, and stabs him to death; he then calls Cassandra and tells her to come over because he has a "perfect gift" for her. When she arrives, with Benson and Stabler in tow, she finds Bullard standing over Doug's mutilated body, raving that, with Doug out of the way, they can be together. The detectives arrest him as Cassandra breaks down sobbing over Doug's body.
Cassandra is extradited to Florida and imprisoned for life for murder, larceny, and fraud.
