Mischief!
~ Castiel.

Castiel otherwise known by the name of his host Andras is the overarching antagonist of the Inside No. 9 episode "The Harrowing". He is the malevolent demon of mischief who is imprisoned by Hector and Tabitha and controls their lives due to him possessing their younger brother. By the time of the story's events he is in need of a new host as Andras is dying and the new body chosen for him was that of the episode's protagonist Katy.

He was portrayed by Sean Buckley.

Biography[]

Castiel is a demon released from Hell after the Harrowing of Hell by Jesus. He possessed the body of Hector and Tabitha's brother Andras, but they were able to imprison him by tying Andras to his bed and keeping him confined in his room. After fifty years Andras's body was decaying and dying resulting in a new host being required. Although Shell offered herself up for this it was instead deemed by the church that her best friend Katy would be a more appropriate host.

To lure her in Hector and Tabitha hired Katy as a house-sitter for their mansion while they were going out for an evening. When she arrives she is instructed that the house needs to be kept at a temperature of -3 for the sake of "Andras" when in reality this is for Castiel's benefit as Hell is apparently this temperature. She is also told that if Andras needs anything he'll to ring his bell as he lacks a mouth, however she's also told not to go upstairs. A curious but unnerved Katy explores the house once they leave and Shell later arrives to join her much to Katy's worry as she's afraid her friend might break things in the house, unbeknownst to her she is actually in cahoots with Hector and Tabitha. The two head upstairs to find Andras in a horrid state, being tied to the bed and in a decayed, rotten state, just then Hector and Tabitha return home and explain their plans for making Katy the new host for Castiel after Andras passes on.

A horrified Katy refuses and tries to escape however is stopped by Shell who sedates her. Katy is then stripped and bound & gagged to a chair while Tabitha is feeding Castiel to get his strength up so he can be prepared for the ritual before leaving the room. A terrified and struggling Katy is left at the mercy of Castiel who sadistically walks towards her while repeating the word "mischief!" over and over again before seemingly possessing and killing her in an incredibly invasive manner, taking a new host body. However, Katy has been tied up as Andras previously was, so Castiel will remain confined for another 50 years before he needs a new host.

Personality[]

From what little we see of Castiel he appears to live up to his name of being a mischievous and sadistic demon who will happily kill others to prolong his own life with a large group of devout followers. As his host bodies get older however Castiel's mind appears to deteriorate into a savage mess.

Appearance[]

Towards the end of Andras's body's life we see Castiel in an incredibly, weak, sickly state with pale blue skin, a deformed, scrawny and skeletal body, wispy white hair, blue eyes and multiple lesions on his skin.
