“ | Dean: Please. I've lost Lisa, I've lost Ben, and now I've lost Sam. Don't make me lose you too You don't need this kind of juice anymore, Cas. Get rid of it before it kills us all. Castiel: You're just saying that because I won. Because you're afraid. (Behind him, Sam picks up the angel blade.) You're not my family, Dean. I have no family. I'm glad you made it, Sam. But the angel blade won't work, because I'm not an angel anymore. I'm your new God. A better one. So you will bow down and profess your love unto me, your Lord. Or I shall destroy you. |

~ Castiel confronts the Winchesters after becoming the new God. |
Castiel is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Bobby Singer) of the CW fantasy series Supernatural but was one of the two main antagonists (alongside Crowley) of Season 6.
Though initially a heroic character, Castiel's actions gradually became darker, ruthless, and morally questionable, though usually for good reason i.e. misunderstandings or mystical influence. During the events of season 6, Castiel was transformed into a celestial being after absorbing the Leviathans, turning him into the first antagonist of Season 7.
He was portrayed by Misha Collins (while possessing Jimmy Novak), who also portrayed Castiel from Apocalypse World and Harvey Dent in Gotham Knights.

~ Castiel to Dean |
Castiel is a Seraph, a higher class of angels. His name may be a variant of "Cassiel," who is the angel of Saturday in Jewish/Christian mythology. In the episode "Unity", God mentions Castiel as being the "self-hating angel of Thursday".
In the episodes "The Third Man" and "Family Matters", Castiel describes his real form as a "multidimensional wavelength of celestial intent, approximately the size of Chrysler Building".
According to Castiel, he and Dean "share a more profound bond", compared to his relationship with Sam. In the season 15 episode "Despair", Castiel finally confesses to loving Dean.
According to actor Misha Collins, Castiel's signature trench coat look was based on that of John Constantine; the anti-hero con man magician from DC/Vertigo comics. Eric Kripke stated that he had originally wanted Constantine to be a recurring character in the series, but this never happened. So, Kripke created Castiel instead and dressed him in a wardrobe as homage to the DC character. A angel named Constantine was introduced in the season 9 episode "Stairway to Heaven", portrayed by Max Kashetsky. In the season 14 episode "Lebanon", Castiel is called Constantine by Zachariah as a joke.
History[]
In 2011, Castiel made a deal with Crowley in a desperate attempt to win the Angelic War against Archangel Raphael and to claim the souls of Purgatory, kidnapping and torturing several monsters in the process.
Eventually, Castiel managed to open Purgatory and absorb all the souls that resided in it to increase his power and become the new God. However, by doing this, he also absorbed the Leviathans. As the new God, Castiel killed Raphael and began a massacre against people he considers "sinners" (religious hypocrites), while the Leviathans began taking control of his body.
With the help of the Winchesters and Bobby, Castiel returned all the souls he absorbed back to Purgatory. unfortunately, some of the Leviathans managed to remain inside him and quickly seized control of his vessel. When Castiel's body was unable to contain them, the Leviathans made their way to a nearby reservoir, where they left Castiel's body and proceeded to spread throughout North America.
Powers and Abilities[]
"God" Powers[]
- Omnipotence/Reality Alteration: After absorbing millions of souls from Purgatory (including Leviathans), Castiel became powerful enough to overpower and kill Raphael, an Archangel easily. His new abilities included a tremendously vast supply of supernatural power that is almost unlimited, making him one of the most powerful celestial beings in the Supernatural universe. With a simple snap of his fingers, Castiel was able to break the spell that the Winchesters had cast to bind Death.
Angelic Powers[]
- Nigh-Omniscience: Being a ancient Seraph, Castiel should have immense knowledge and understanding of the universe and is able to be quickly aware of certain events happening.
- White Light: When Castiel was a Seraph, he could generate an overwhelming white light capable of kill a dozen Jefferson Starships.
- Angelic Possession: Castiel requires a vessel to act on Earth, and he must have the vessel's permission.
- Telepathy: Castiel is able to read the thoughts of humans.
- Regeneration: If his vessel becomes damaged in any way, Castiel is able to heal it instantly and completely. For instance, his vessel Jimmy was exploded at the molecular level by Raphael and Lucifer, but upon his return (after being resurrected by God), he didn't have a scratch either on his skin or even his clothing.
- Supernatural Strength: Being a ancient Seraph, the physical strength that Castiel endows his vessel with is immense. His immense strength and powers are only somewhat rivaled by higher beings like Archangels or Celestials.
- Chronokinesis: Even being difficult for him, Castiel has some control over time. He sent Dean from the present to the past with ease.
- Telekinesis: Castiel is a powerful telekinetic, able to move and control objects with his mind effortlessly; he was even able to move objects in areas where he hadn't fully arrived in.
- Healing: Castiel can easily heal others of any injury, wound and disease.
- Resurrection: Before his fall, Castiel could resurrect humans with ease.
- Sedation: Just like an average angel, Castiel can sedate humans by touching their forehead.
- Teleportation/Flight: Using his wings, Castiel can travel from one place to another instantly, without occupying the space in between. He can also take people with him, in the blink of an eye.
- Pyrokinesis: Castiel can generate and manipulate fire. He used this ability to burn through ropes binding him.
- Supernatural Perception: Castiel can sense and see things even if they're naturally invisible.
- Immortality: As a ancient Seraph, Castiel has an infinitely long lifespan. The excessive passing of time does not degrade his vessel, like with all celestial beings. His vessel is unaffected by diseases and toxins. He does not tire, and does not require food, water, oxygen, or sleep to sustain his vessel.
- Invulnerability: Castiel cannot be killed by any conventional weapon, like the Demon-Killing Knife.

Quotes[]
“ | I've been here for a very long time. And I remember many things. I remember being at a shoreline, watching a little grey fish heave itself up on the beach and an older brother saying, "don't step on that fish, Castiel. Big plans for that fish." I remember the Tower of Babel... All 37 feet of it, which I suppose was impressive at the time. And when it fell, they howled 'divine wrath'. But come on - dried dung can only be stacked so high. I remember Cain and Abel, David and Goliath, Sodom and Gomorrah. And, of course, I remember the most remarkable event; remarkable because it never came to pass. It was averted by two boys, an old drunk and a fallen angel. The grand story. And we ripped up the ending and the rules...And destiny...leaving nothing but freedom and choice. Which is all well and good, except... Well, what if I've made the wrong choice? How am I supposed to know? I'm getting ahead of myself. | „ |
~ Castiel to God |
“ | So, that's everything. I believe it's what you would call a...Tragedy from the human perspective. But maybe the human perspective is...Limited. I don't know. That's why I'm asking you, Father. One last time. Am I doing the right thing? Am I on the right path? You have to tell me. You have to give me...A sign. Give me a sign. Because if you don't...I'm gonna ju-- I'm gonna do whatever I... Whatever I must. | „ |
