Cannibals are people or animals that eat something of the same species as themselves or have attempted to do so. The circumstances that turn a Villain into a cannibal vary, ranging from Mental Illnesses to Mutations that altered their diets. Cannibals are often depicted as being particularly depraved due to simply devouring a member of their own species.
This can also include Villains who force or trick others into committing cannibalism (e.g. Grimmel the Grisly, Eric Cartman, Sweet Licks and the Gotham version of The Penguin) or attempt to do so. If they have nothing but to eat the other individuals of the same species, they are Tragic, and from the other, they can be Pure Evil if they are willing to do so.
Cannibals come in two basic subtypes:
- The cultural cannibal - Some societies practiced cannibalism, while in the real world such societies no longer exist in fiction many such societies still function or are mirrored in alien / extra-dimensional societies, they differ from the sociopathic cannibals in the fact that cannibalism is regarded as "norm" in their society and thus while hated and feared by those outside of their culture is largely accepted by members of their own community / clan / species.
- The sociopathic cannibal - Individuals who practice cannibalism despite the fact it is a cultural taboo for their community / clan / species, they are normally born of the modern era (but not always) and are motivated purely out of sadism or misanthropy, they are the most hated and feared of villains due to the very nature of their crimes.
Editing note: not to be confused with Man-Eaters who are Non-Humans that eat human beings. Also, do not add Animals who eat different Animals (like a T-rex eating a Triceratops or a hawk eating a chicken) no matter how Anthropomorphic they may be. The latter should go under Predators instead because the Animals eaten are still different species.
