“ | Come on, when people look up "bad" in the dictionary, do they see a sweet, adorable guinea pig? No. They see you. And they always will. | „ |
~ Professor Marmalade to The Bad Guys. |
“ | Let's understand each other. I sang the first hymn when the stars were born. Not that long ago, I announced to a young woman, Mary, who it was she was expecting. On the other hand, I've turned rivers into blood. Kings into cripples. Cities to salt. So, I don't think that I have to explain myself to you. | „ |

Villains who turn out to be Contradictory are either an extreme opposite of a normally friendly career, creature or even race, are false promisers in a sense, or are surprisingly more menacing despite whatever silly or harmless-sounding name they possess or even their appearance alone.
The common themes for this type of villain include but are not limited to: evil clowns, evil Santas, killer toys, evil puppets, evil fairies, evil angels, Light Beings, dwarves (NOT to be confused for those who suffer from dwarfism), and elves; things that are normally supposed to represent more positive experiences such as innocence, friendship and protection donning a darker and sometimes controversial theme than what is normally expected of them. This can also apply to Centaurs, Sphinxes, and Phoenixes as they are usually helping people in most stories. While Chinese Dragons would fit in the Dragons category, this type particularly would also be contradictory if they are portrayed evil because they are usually a symbol of good luck. Gods only count if they're gods specifically of positive concepts (e.g. God (Supernatural) and Galeem) (so a God of Evil won't count, but a malevolent God of Love may).
It can also apply to figures traditionally seen as "good" or "pure" in many societies - such as members of clergy, police officers or traditional hero figures (e.g. Homelander and Omni-Man).
Often times this category can also apply to villains that are presented as a Parody/Homage to an otherwise lighthearted character designed to bring joy-such as evil versions of Mickey Mouse.
NOTE: Do not add Demons or certain Dark Knights and Military Villains to this list (e.g. The Devil (theology) and Malthael), specifically many of the ones that belong under the subcategories of Fallen Heroes and Fallen Angels, as they no longer contradict what they are meant to be or bring, given that they have figuratively and sometimes even literally fallen from grace. Also, such characters must take on this form or guise for the majority of the work they are in and not for a short time. ANOTHER NOTE: Do not add Juvenile Delinquents that take on no concept of joy (e.g. Henry Evans and Eveline) as they are not designed to bring joy despite the fact that most people see them as embodiment of sweetness and innocence. This category needs to identify concepts created for joy and purity, such as clowns, toys, puppets, Santas, elves, angels, fairies, holy beings, cute animals, and so on.
