“ | When the comet last came, my grandfather, Fire Lord Sozin, used it to wipe out the Air Nomads. Now, I will use its power to end the Earth Kingdom... permanently. From our airships, we will rain fire over their lands, a fire that will destroy everything and out of the ashes, a new world will be born: a world in which all the lands are Fire Nation and I am the supreme ruler of everything! | „ |
~ Fire Lord Ozai plotting to burn down the Earth Kingdom. |
“ | And we shall cut away the cancer that infects us until only those of the true blood remain! | „ |
~ Lord Voldemort to his Death Eaters about exterminating Muggle-borns. |
Genocidal Villains are a step above your average Mass Murderer and a step below the Omnicidal Maniac; they seek to exterminate an entire race or species. They usually commit genocide to further their own race's (or species') power, fulfill some insidious political goal, or eradicate a particular race perceived to be practicing religious heresy. Or, they could simply view another race as a threat or commit genocide for their own selfish gain. In rare cases, there are various villains out there who commit or attempt genocide for fun or out of pure sadism. Thus, they have no real reason to committing genocide apart from taking pleasure in harming others.
Genocide has long been considered a violation of not just international law but also basic morality, making those guilty of participating in such acts extremely difficult to redeem; in spite of this, some Genocidal Villains may be praised by intolerant or misguided individuals who may not be aware of how far the villain is willing to go in their quest to "cure," "cleanse," "purify" or "fix" the world.
Genocide comes in some notable subtypes such as:
- Genocidal hegemony - Marked by a desire to be the sole surviving race, species, or faction in an entire planet, solar system, galaxy, universe, or even multiverse. Thus, they will target all other species for extinction in favor of their own, while a standard genocidal group or character targets only a few select groups in a society. Some parasitic species will even use other species as hosts by which to reproduce and effectively wipe out all competing life. Examples are Adolf Hitler, Ozai, Koba, the Daleks, Red Skull, Aresia, Skynet, Beatrice, Abaddon, Demise, and Commander Tartar.
- Ethnocide - The deliberate destruction of a people's culture, nation, and identity, as well as often, the enslavement of said people, who are annexed into the enemy ranks. Many evil empires, rogue A.I., or similar entities do this, and it is the only form of genocide that is not necessarily mass-murder, though it is still very much the deliberate destruction of a select group. Cultural genocide is also committed by forcibly transferring children of a particular ethnic group to another group as a means of forced assimilation into the dominant culture. Examples include the Phantom Troupe, Judge Claude Frollo, the Borg, Ultron, Vandal Savage, Syndrome, Doma, Führer Geisel, Kai Chisaki, the Cybermen, Kujou Takayuki, William Hale, and Reverend Buckley.
- Latent genocide - The result of civilian deaths caused by unintended consequences, such as a byproduct of war or accidental spread of disease in the aftermath of an invasion. Examples include Gihren Zabi and The Colonel.
- Retributive genocide - The act of localized punishment against the segment of a minority group in retaliation for challenging the dominant group. Examples include Ganondorf, Lieutenant Hawkins, and Assef.
- Utilitarian genocide - The act of killing or ethnically cleansing a foreign population from their homelands as a means of obtaining wealth via conquest of indigenous lands to gain access of economic resources. This form of genocide is often committed by imperialist nations in the form of colonialism. Examples include John Ratcliffe, Miles Quaritch, Sergeant Bauer, Sozin and Elliot Marston.
Please do not add Xenophobes as not only is it obvious that they hate another group and it isn't for people out to kill the group despite seeing them as inferior.
