“ | I imagine John Watson thinks love is a mystery to me, but the chemistry is incredibly simple and very destructive. When we first met, you told me disguise is always a self-portrait. How clever of you. The numbers to your safe, your measurements. But this, this is far more intimate. This is your heart and you should never let it rule your head. You could have chosen any random number and walked out here with everything you worked for, but you just couldn't resist it, could you? I've always assumed love is a dangerous disadvantage. Thank you for the final proof. | „ |
~ Sherlock Holmes to Irene Adler on how her love for him was ultimately her downfall. |
This category is for all of the villains who fall in love with someone special in his/her life, whether is the main protagonist/hero, a superhero, a neutral good character, a true neutral character, or another villain. The other character DOES NOT have to return the affection for the villain to qualify.
Some villains who fell in love can be redeemed, such as Megamind and Professor Bedlam.
A Pure Evil can never be added at this category as they can't feel genuine love (except for themselves), only perversion or obsessiveness (Judge Claude Frollo was obsessed with Esmerelda in a perverted way, and Steele was simply perverted).
- They can use this at his/her advantage as a petty excuse to use that person who fall in love with them to do everything they want (even murder innocent people and/or children or, worse, kill millions of civilians) and they corrupt that person into becoming in that monster, like the mainstream Joker who often abuses Harley Quinn and uses her as nothing but a tool.
- Others can use to traumatize that specific character into becoming something that they are not (technically they can become tragic villains), like Zoom did to Caitlin Snow from Earth-2 which later become in Killer Frost, and later this same with his counterpart from Earth-1.
Otherwise, villains who pretend falling in love with someone (usually for greedy reasons) or possessive egotists should not be added here (e.g. Gaston LeGume and Biff Tannen), even if they're not pure evil.
This category is ONLY for villains who truly fell in love with that special person and by extension this is somewhat (depending in the plot/movie/or book) a good quality to redemption.
Editing note: this category is for romantic love examples ONLY, please do NOT add platonic love examples to this category.
