Gordon: Please! Tell me what I'm doing here! SOMEBODY!
Joker: Doing? You're doing what any sane man in your appalling circumstances would do. You're going
mad.
Gordon: I... I remember-
Joker: I wouldn't do that. Remembering's dangerous. I find the past such a worrying, anxious place. Yes, memory is so treacherous. One moment you're lost in a carnival of delight, childhood aromas, the flashing neon of puberty, all that sentimental candyfloss. The next, it takes you somewhere you don't want to be. Somewhere dark and cold, filled with damp, ambiguous-shaped things you'd rather forget. Memories can be vile, repulsive little brutes. Like children, no?
Gordon: Barbara!
Joker: But can we live without them? Memories are what our reason is based on. If we deny them, we deny reason itself. Although, what's wrong with that, really? It's not like we're contractually tied down to rationality. There is no sanity clause. ~ Joker enticing Gordon to let go of his sanity.

Villains who drive others insane either through superpowers, concentrated effort or even both. Mind-Breakers may do this for evil goals in mind, or sometimes even out of pure sadism. Many villains can cause insanity by supernatural means, some evil brainwashers or psychics are capable of driving people insane with their powers and torturers can force a person to go into madness through their own barbaric methods.

Mind-Breakers are often seen as extremely evil given that driving someone insane is, needless to say, a horrible and inhumane act. Especially if it is done through the victim's suffering until their mind just cracks. This can be especially bad as some victims cannot be saved from insanity and even if so, are likely to retain serious trauma afterwards.

These villains differ from Psychological Abusers in terms of severity, although they can very easily overlap. If a villain successfully drives someone into insanity, or at the very least; a severe broken state, then they can qualify for this category as well. Good examples include; It, Slender Man, Glitchtrap, Bellatrix Lestrange, Archibald Snatcher, Kai Chisaki and many versions of the Joker.
