| “ | The whole town's talking about it. It's not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts getting ideas and thinking... | „ |
| ~ Gaston LeGume mocking Belle. |
| “ | You symbolize the hope that women will one day win an argument with their husbands, that they won't be catcalled when they walk down the streets, that their bosses won't talk about their tits anymore, that they'll make just as much money as men make, that the fight is winnable! But when I kill you, they'll see that there is no hope. Women can't lead. Women can't win! They will always be outsmarted and outmuscled! They need to finally understand that what they can and should do is shut up, know their place and make me a goddamn sandwich! | „ |
| ~ Kai Anderson demeaning Ally Mayfair-Richards |
Misogynists are villains who have hatred or contempt for women. It can be physical or emotional abuse specifically towards women, or it may be a deep-rooted prejudice against them. A misogynist may see girls and women as evil, debased, weaks, useless or even sub-human and mere objects (though they may make certain exceptions for their mothers, such as with Orin Scrivello, or other female relatives or lovers). It is also not uncommon for them to be perverts, rapists, pimps, etc.
This prejudice against women can manifest in a variety of ways, from basic chauvinism and prejudice to more extreme and vile acts like rape, serial murder and enslavement. This prejudice almost always has an emphasis on subjugation of women in particular in place of male superiority under a patriarchal society.
Although associated mainly with males, some females can be misogynists as well (examples being Jane Tiptree, Aunt Lydia, Femme Fatale, Giffany, Frill, Stitch Sisters, Mrs. Carmody, Frau Engel, Claire, Susan Grimshaw, Cassie Howard, Sharon Quinzel, and Jo Slade). If so, they also contradict the hatred they announce as they spare themselves, and also qualify as Hypocrites.
The opposing counterpart of misogyny is misandry, the hatred of men. See Misandrists for more details on that-although the two can overlap, even if rarely (e.g. Joe Goldberg, Adrian Țofei, Billy Blim, Madame Amberly and Amber Canardo).
Important note: A villain who hurts females for reasons that are unrelated to gender do not count as misogynists. For example, Ganondorf repeatedly kidnaps Zelda, but comes from a matriarchal society and frequently works with female villains such as his surrogate mothers, Twinrova, not to mention that he mainly kidnaps Zelda to obtain the Triforce. Thus Ganon should not go under this category as he does not show hatred or patronizing behavior towards females as a whole.
Likewise, villains who just hate humanity as a whole do not count either and should go into Misanthropes instead. However, a misanthrope can still be a misogynist if they harbor a special hatred, disdain or mistreat for women (such as Rorschach, Dio Brando, Green Goblin, Eric Cartman, Griffith, Joker, Patrick Bateman, John Doe, Doma and Alex DeLarge).
Good examples of Misogynists include Naoya Zenin, Andy Evans, Adam (Hazbin Hotel), Fred Waterford, Joseph Sugarman, Sunny Jim, Water Street Butcher, Gaku Yashiro, Captain Vidal, Jabba the Hutt, Lord Piggot-Dunceby, Glenn Quagmire, Sir Piers Pomfrey, Homelander, Zapp Brannigan, Josh, Gaston LeGume, Bryce Walker, General Tsao, Hugo Martinez, and Jenner.
Due to obvious reasons, these villains count as Xenophobes.
