- Note: Not to be confused with the Predators.
“ | You know the thing about sharks, he's got...lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eye. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living. Until he bites ya and those black eyes roll over white. And then, ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screaming and the ocean turns red and spite of all the pounding and the hollering they all come in and rip you to pieces. You know by the end of that first dawn, lost a hundred men! I don't know how many sharks, maybe a thousand! I don't know how many men, they averaged 6 an hour. | „ |
~ Quint explains the tale of the USS Indianapolis, to further increase the menacing presence of the shark. |
Predators are carnivorous creatures whether they are Animals, Monsters, Demons, and/or Aliens who hunt and kill for food.
Predators typically act out of instinct and a need to eat rather than genuine maliciousness; thus they are considered Ferals.
However, this should not be entirely mistaken with human predators who are Cannibals and/or Man-Eaters if they hunt within their own species or Perverts if they are sexual predators. This category is for creatures who have to eat other creatures in order to live, such as Animalistic Predators - however, these categories can overlap in some cases.
Although many of these villains hunt and kill for food, they don't necessarily need to do so in order to qualify for this category. Some of these predators are simply members of species that are predatory in nature, such as felines, canines, bears, and birds of prey.
Since killing for survival is part of their lives, predators rarely border on being Pure Evil, though it is possible for them to be if in addition to hunting for food, they hunt for pleasure, or if they are cruel to and enjoy torturing victims before eating them (e.g. the Beldam, Dag, Pennywise, some versions of Shere Khan, Creeper, Queen of the Black Puddle, and Fagin). There are also characters such as Scar or Harry who are literally animals that need to eat other animals to survive yet the fact they are predators does not contribute to what makes them heinous enough to be Pure Evil.
