Psychopaths are not crazy. They're fully aware of what they do and of the consequences of their actions.
~ Hannibal Lecter to Will Graham.

Psychopaths are associated with psychopathic personality disorder or psychopathy while Sociopaths are associated with sociopathic personality disorder or sociopathy; sufferers also show traits and symptoms of antisocial and/or narcissistic personality disorder. Therefore they have an absence and lack of emotional connections and as a result tend to be violent, Amoral and cannot be Remorseful exceptions aside. Psychopaths as stated above are NOT (entirely) Mentally Ill or Psychotic but mistaken for being so though there are Psychopaths and Sociopaths who tread the line between living in reality and fantasy. Psychopaths are completely aware while Psychos do not fully understand what is happening around them.

However, both are intelligent and/or Charismatic Liars who appear to not have feelings but still understand others. Sociopaths and even Psychopaths have facades they use in order to blend in with societies thus making them Social Chameleons. This does not mean all are villainous; in fact real-life Sociopaths have normal lives and in fiction may be Anti-Heroes).

Psychopathy and sociopathy are usually persistent conditions but can be induced by horrific events twisting the sanity and overall stability of individuals. This leads to them normally becoming Antisocialists (sometimes spelled Anti-Socialists) or Asocialists; some may be Outcasts since they are ostracized for their actions and/or prefer to not interact with most others.

Also, just because Villains are Vengeful and/or Wrathful therefore having violent tendencies it doesn't necessarily make them Psychopaths unless they are particularly Antisocial.
