~ Cecil as he engages Sam in battle. |
Cecil the Dragon is a major antagonist in Serious Sam 2 and the fifth boss of the game, being the target of the Ellenier levels.
He is the last of Mental's servants that Sam hunts down for the pieces of the Medallion of Power, having been placed in charge of keeping the people of planet Ellenier in line. After kidnapping the princess of Ellenier and changing his mind about it, Cecil and Sam decide to settle the matter of who has to deal with her via means of combat.
He is voiced by Brian Bowles.
Appearance[]
Cecil is a large, pink dragon with a long snout and yellow, slitted eyes with long eyelashes. The scales on the underside of his body and his wings are green in color.
Personality[]
Despite being one of Mental's servants, Cecil is remarkably polite to Sam. Initially kidnapping Princess Olga for no known purpose other than for the sake of it, or perhaps to have leverage against the King, Cecil is so repulsed by her hideousness that he's even willing to betray his master just to get rid of her. This despite the fact that Mental is likely going to kill him for helping his mortal enemy.
Biography[]
With Count Kleerofski dead and the fourth medallion piece in his possession, only one more piece was left to finally get a shot at defeating Mental once and for all. The Great Sirian Council sent Sam to planet Elleneer, where the resident Elvians lived peacefully until Cecil the Dragon arrived to take the medallion from them. His best chance to fight Cecil was to intercept him when collecting the monthly tribute from the town Greendale under Heartbreak mountain, but unfortunately he arrived on Elleneer just as Cecil showed up, missing him by a few minutes. Sam still protected the village from Mental's forces, but decided it's best to move forward to the city of Kingsburg for an audience with the King.
Sam fought his way to the castle where the marriage of Princess Olga was taking place, but unfortunately festivities were cut short when Cecil arrived and snatched the princess away. The King tasked Sam with getting her back to safety and had him brought to the floating islands above Ellenier, where Cecil had made his domain. When Sam flew to the third island on a crude flying machine, Cecil attacked and burned it down, forcing a confrontation. But when the two finally came face to face, Cecil immediately dropped all hostilities and apologized for kidnapping the princess, telling Sam that he is free to take her back with him. Sam took one look at the princess's face and decided she wasn't worth it, upon which Cecil begged him to take her and that he'll give Sam anything he wants. Sam hesitated but still refused, after which Cecil took to the sky and said that they shall fight over who has to deal with the princess.
The princess aided Sam in his fight by throwing Serious Jump power-ups out of her cage, with proved vital to Sam's victory. The dragon's hide was too strong for any of his weapons to deal meaningful damage to, having to rely on crossbows and arrows scattered around the arena that could only be reached with a boost to his jumping capabilities. After being beaten, Cecil threatened to kill himself by plunging into the depths below the island rather than having to keep looking at the princess. Sam took pity on the dragon and gave him a deal: He will take the princess back to the King, but in return Cecil would hand over his piece of the Medallion of Power. Cecil lamented that Mental was probably going to kill him for this, then agreed to the deal. It is unknown what happened to Cecil after they parted ways.
Trivia[]
- Cecil is called "Meerdaah" in the game files, likely a placeholder name given to him before the developers settled on Cecil.
- Though now non-canonical, Cecil is one of only a few of Mental's servants to survive his fight with Sam (the others being Director Doppler and the Evil Serious Sam Clone).
- Cecil is the only boss in Serious Sam 2 who has his own battle theme, rather than using the combat track from the previous level. He still reuses a previous fight theme however, sharing it with the Exotech Larva from Serious Sam: The Second Encounter.
