“ | At last, Faro's legacy is mine. | „ |
~ Ceo's famous line. |
The Ceo is a minor antagonist in the 2022 video game Horizon Forbidden West. He is a member of the Quen Empire's royal family, who is a relative of the Emperor, and the leader of the Quen expeditionary team to San Francisco. He is also a notorious follower of Ted Faro, during his descent to madness.
He is voiced and motion-captured by Drew Moerlein.
Personality[]
The Ceo is known to be a pious and haughty man, who is obsessed with worshipping Ted Faro, going so far in imitating his behaviour, as well as his clothing. Because of the attrition and the problems that ensued during the expedition to the ruins of San Francisco, the Ceo's mental state would later go into a decline, causing his worship of Faro into a delusion of grandeur.
History[]
Expedition to San Francisco[]
In 3040, the Ceo, along with Bohai and Alva, as well as the rest of the Quen, would set the expedition to the ruins of San Francisco in order to save their tribe, as it was battered with Red Blight and supercell storms, a side effect of DEMETER and AETHER's self-awareness as an AI.
During their trip, the Ceo's descent to madness began, when the expeditionary team suffered machine attacks, as well as storms. Matters worsened, however, the expedition's progress for answers stagnated completely, causing himself to see Ted Faro as "renewed", and would attempt to execute anyone who defied him.
Thebes[]
When Aloy later meets up with the Quen to Isle of Spires (erstwhile San Francisco), she is later revered by the Quen as the "Ancestor Reborn", and the Ceo would command 50 soldiers to point their bows at her, and would attempt to dress her up with the exact replica of Sobeck's clothing, much to her disgust. She would obey only due to her not wanting to go through the bother of killing them.
During Aloy's trek to Thebes for Faro's Omega Clearance, the Ceo would later descend further to egomania and insanity, going so far in threatening Bohai and the rest who speak out to his mania, in a deluded effort to save his own tribe.
When Aloy reaches Faro's office inside Thebes that leads to the Power Room, the Ceo would later fully indulge in his fantasy, by telling that Faro's legacy is his, but not before he found out that the man he "worshiped" was nothing more than a nondescript pile of mutated flesh. Disgusted, he ordered the Quen marines to burn what left of Faro, ignoring Aloy's warning, which triggered Thebes' self-destruction, before he ordered his marines to kill Aloy and Alva, as they were witnesses.
However, the Ceo was later ironically killed by the man he idolised by getting crushed with the statue's head he would be still alive and in excrutioating pain before every fiber of his very being would be burnt away slowly by lava, completely ending his reign of madness against the Quen.
Legacy[]
The Ceo's death would mark a significant change to the Quen, no longer having to bow to a deluded fanatic, giving them a huge sigh of relief.
Alva, at once, would attempt to defend the Ceo's death, claiming that he sacrificed himself for pieces of data, before Bohai warned both her and Aloy about their lies, due to the Quen Overseer no longer bowing to a madman. However, Aloy would reason with Bohai and claimed that the Ceo was responsible for destroying Thebes to the ground.
Trivia[]
- The Ceo's name is a pun on the occupation's acronym, "Chief Executive Officer".
- He dies the most agonizing death of any other charecter in the franchise. Also, it counts as an ironic death since he was crushed by the head of the statue of the man he fanatically worshipped.
