Chairman Mao Tse Tung, aka Mao Zedong is the main antagonist of the Monty Python sketch International Communist Party Of China . He is the leader of the Communist Party of China, which plans to destroy all freedom.
Mao appears when Mrs Johnson (a character from the previous sketch) returns to her office and is attacked by an army of tiny yellow men, lead by Chairman Mao Tse Tung. The army smothers and kills her as the Narrator states that she has "Fallen victim to the International Communist Conspiracy", which destroyed her as it destroys the freedom of democratic countries. Chairman Mao then has his Communist army surge forward carrying him to attack the USA and take it over, only for a rocket adorned with the stars and stripes to fly overhead and fire a cannon at the communists, blasting Mao away and ending the conspiracy as Uncle Sam gives a speech about American defence.
- Mao is the least comedic Monty Python villain, as nothing about the sketch other than Mao's appearance is presented comically.
- Mao and the Communist Party are actually quite racially offensive, as the sketch is essentially just anti-Chinese propaganda, meaning all the Chinese characters were shown to be yellow, with Mao being a caricature of a Chinaman.
- The appearance of Mao in general is controversial (and remains so) due to the nature of Chinese politics as a whole.
