Chaos is one of the four overarching antagonists (alongside the other Yggdrasil), of the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok.

Chaos is one of the original 88 Primordial Gods, as well as a member of the Yggdrasil, the four strongest Primordial Gods of all, who attempted to exterminate the Gods, but were met with resistance from many Primordial Gods. Reviving Chaos and the other three Yggdrasil is the ultimate goal of Odin.

Appearance[]

Chaos appears as a young man, of apparently medium-tall height and with a very muscular build. He wears a hat-like headdress that reaches up to his neck, with a diagram sticking out of the top and covering his face. Around his arms and shoulders, Chaos wears thick sleeves and band-like plates. A tattoo of a chaos design pops out on his torso, with three lines running down the center of his body. On his legs, he wears baggy pants and has no footwear, having bare feet. He levitates almost constantly.

Personality[]

Chaos is a cold and ruthless God, who chose to slaughter the other Gods he deemed superfluous since they had multiplied beyond the original 88 Primordial Gods, and to carry out his plan he did not hesitate to fight the Primordial Gods who opposed him and the other Yggdrasil. Chaos finds it comical when anyone tries to stop him.

Biography[]

Chaos is a Primordial God, as well as a member of Yggdrasil, the four most powerful Primordial Gods that include Chaos, Odin, Satan and Ymir, and one of the original 88 Primordial Gods born from the "chaos of the beginning" and who spawned the other Gods. However, one day the Yggdrasil determine that the Gods have become superfluous and decide to exterminate them: 7 Primordial Gods side with them, while the other 77 oppose the decision, and this triggers a war between Primordial Gods, the original Ragnarok.

However, the Yggdrasil prove to be too powerful and manage to defeat the rebel Primordial Gods without any problems, which pushes the rebel Primordial Gods, including Izanagi, to use a seal called Gleipnir - Weave of Sealed Gods, with which they trap the Yggdrasil and the other Primordial Gods who supported them for eternity. However, shortly before being sealed forever, Chaos and the other three Yggdrasil manage to spread their relics throughout the world, which for Chaos is equivalent to his bracelets Draupnir, so that thanks to them they can one day resurrect.

Some time later, the sword Gram, Primordial Odin’s relic, is found by a Nameless God who is curious about the legend of the Primordial Gods, and this allows Primordial Odin to take possession of the aforementioned God, transforming him into the King of the Norse Pantheon Odin. From that moment, Odin's ultimate goal becomes to bring the Primordial Gods back to life, and to do so he finds the other three relics of Yggdrasil and plans to sacrifice the Primordial Vessel, someone capable of holding the four relics within himself without dying, namely Siegfried, and the Water of Life, obtainable by exterminating Humanity. To this end, he imprisons Siegfried in Tartarus by forcing Michel Nostradamus to keep him alive, and convinces the Gods' Council to exterminate Humanity, although Brunhilde, aware of his plans, organizes the Ragnarok Tournament to stop him.

Powers and Abilities[]

Overall Abilities: As a Primordial God as well as a member of Yggdrasil, Chaos is one of the most powerful Gods in the entire Universe. He possesses physical abilities far superior to those of any ordinary Human. His body cannot be damaged by mortal weapons, however it can still be damaged by unarmed attacks from individuals with superhuman strength and Divine Weapons. For the same reason, Chaos is unable to die due to old age. Chaos and the other three Yggdrasil are so powerful that the 77 rebel Primordial Gods could not get the better of them and had to seal them away forever.

Power of Creation: As a Primordial God, Chaos has the power to create anything he wants, be it objects or other Deities. In fact, it was Chaos who created, together with the other Primordial Gods, the Gods.

Chain Expertise: Chaos' primary weapons are Draupnir, large bracelets on his wrists, that had three chains with pitch black spheres attached to them at their ends. Chaos was capable of somehow freely controlling them, and in combat, he used the spheres attached to the chains like maces. He is very skilled in using it, being able to kill or severely injure his opponents with a simple chain swing.

Trivia[]

  • In Greek Mythology, Chaos is the personification of primordial disorder, the place where the first Gods were spontaneously born.
  • In Theogony, Chaos is one of the four main powers, together with Gaia, Tartarus and Eros, and generated Erebus and Nyx. In Orphism, too, it is one of the four powers, but together with Erebus, Tartarus and Nyx.
