Chaos, also known as the God of Destruction, is a major antagonist of the anime series Sonic X, serving as one of the two main antagonists (alongside with Dr. Eggman) of Sonic Adventure Arc.
The original guardian of the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald, Chaos watched over a Chao colony in ancient times until an attack from the Knuckles Clan led to it being consumed by a fury that threatened to destroy the world. However, it was sealed in the Master Emerald before it could succeed. After generations of imprisonment, it was released by Dr. Eggman in a plot to conquer the world. Eventually, though, Chaos turned on Eggman and tried to destroy the Earth, but was calmed by Sonic and became a force for good.

Past[]
Generations ago, Chaos lived at the Altar of Emerald where it served as the protector of the local Chao, the seven Chaos Emeralds, and the Master Emerald that resided there. At some point, it befriended Tikal, the daughter of the chief of the Knuckles Clan.
One day, Tikal came to Chaos and asked it to leave the altar, as her father, Chief Pachacamac, planned to attack the altar and steal Chaos' Chaos Emeralds. Chaos, however, told Tikal that it could not leave the altar. When Pachacamac and his followers finally attacked the altar, they harmed the local Chao and Tikal. Seeing its sacred precincts being invaded filled Chaos with anger and sadness. Making its appearance, Chaos used the Chaos Emeralds to vaporize Pachacamac and his men and become Perfect Chaos. However, Perfect Chaos, now corrupted by anger and rage, would not stop its destructive impulses and would have destroyed the rest of the world had it not been for Tikal, who sealed herself and Chaos inside the Master Emerald for the next several generations to come.
Chaos Saga[]
Six months after the Master Emerald was brought to Earth, Chaos was freed from the Master Emerald when Dr. Eggman, who sought to harness Chaos' power to conquer Earth, destroyed the massive gem. Upon its release, it was attacked by the Master Emerald's guardian, Knuckles, but Chaos easily repelled him and escaped. However, the shattering of the Master Emerald caused Chaos' tail to land elsewhere, and it ended by being swallowed by Froggy. Sometime after, Chaos became the minion of Dr. Eggman, who began looking for the Chaos Emeralds to power Chaos up further.
Chaos eventually emerged in Station Square and began destroying everything in sight. Not even the police were able to stop its rampage. However, Chaos withdrew after Sonic showed up and gave it a beating. It returned though when Eggman showed up and stole a Chaos Emerald from Cream, which he then gave to Chaos, causing it to evolve into Chaos 1. Chaos tried to attack Sonic and his friends but was interrupted by Knuckles, who wanted payback for what Eggman did to the Master Emerald. Chaos was subsequently fed another Chaos Emerald by Eggman and evolved into Chaos 2. Engaging Sonic and Knuckles, Chaos initially had the upper hand and managed to destroy much of the city, but was ultimately brought down by Sonic and Knuckles' teamwork. Dr. Eggman then abducted Chaos' components into his Egg Mobile and fled from the scene.
Coming with Eggman to Windy Valley, Chaos snatched the two Chaos Emeralds Sonic and Tails had found when they fell into its possession, causing it to evolve into Chaos 4. Chaos proceeded to fight Sonic but was defeated by the hedgehog yet again despite being in its right element. Its remains were then picked by Eggman and taken to the Egg Carrier. On the massive aircraft, Chaos and Eggman caught Chris and Big in trying to escape with Froggy, whom Eggman had captured for Chaos. On Eggman's orders, Chaos cut the two heroes off when they tried to flee. Taking Froggy, Eggman made it spit out the Chaos Emerald it had swallowed, which he then gave to Chaos, along with another one he had gotten earlier. With that, Chaos evolved into Chaos 6, whom Eggman then fed Froggy to it, so that it could reabsorb the part of its essence that Froggy had swallowed. When Big and Chris tried to save Froggy, Chaos swallowed them as well. In the process, Chaos 6 regained its tail from Froggy. Sonic soon after came to the rescue but was unable to pierce Chaos' skin. Chaos proceeded to beat Sonic with its tentacles until Knuckles intervened. Chaos then faced the combined forces of Sonic and Knuckles again, who managed to defeat it by attacking its weak point (its brain). In the aftermath, Knuckles took the Chaos Emeralds from Chaos' remains.
Surviving this confrontation, Chaos soon resurfaced and confronted Dr. Eggman in the Mystic Ruins. With Eggman having failed to deliver it the seven Chaos Emeralds, Chaos rebelled against Eggman by attacking him. Soon after, Chaos attacked Chris with a water tornado when he tried getting the final Chaos Emerald to Knuckles. Although Sonic and Knuckles saved Chris, the boy lost his Emerald to Chaos. With Knuckles busy with helping Chris, Chaos took as well the six Chaos Emeralds the echidna had left unguarded. Now in possession of all seven Emeralds, Chaos became Perfect Chaos. It then began its rampage on Earth by flooding Station Square and destroying everything in sight. GUN, Sonic the Hedgehog and the X-Tornado counterattacked, but they were all no match for Perfect Chaos. Chaos subsequently came under assault by Dr. Eggman in his Egg Carrier 2, but it destroyed the flying fortress with a single shot. Afterward, Chaos finished draining the Chaos Emeralds of all their negative chaos energy, prompting it to regurgitate the Emeralds. However, this allowed Sonic and co. to gather the Emeralds and use their positive energies to turn Sonic into Super Sonic. Chaos proceeded to attack Sonic with everything it had, only to be outclassed at every attempt and be defeated when Super Sonic went on the offensive. In the process, Super Sonic neutralized Chaos' rage with his positive energy.
Reverting back to Chaos 0, a happy Chaos was greeted by the spirit of Tikal and the Chao it had been protecting in the past. Convinced by Tikal that everything was alright now, Chaos departed with Tikal to live in peace.
Sonic X Archie Comics[]
Chaos would appear twice more after the attack on Station Square. The first time Chaos did was in issue 6 as backup for Sonic when Eggman unleashed an army of Dark Chao cloned from Cheese's DNA. Chaos would fight Eggman's Egg Gator Robot by becoming a positively charged version of Perfect Chaos, which was just a giant version of Chaos 0. Making quick work of the machine, Chaos reverted back to normal, and returned home.
The second time was during the two-part event known as Green-Eyed Monster. Here Eggman uses the Chaos Emeralds and his Greenbots, a trio of clean energy themed robots and siphons Chaos out of the Master Emerald. The Greenbots then fused themselves together with the emeralds and Chaos to create Chaosbot, an armored version of Perfect Chaos Eggman could control via remote. Sonic would attempt to reason with Chaos, which gave it enough free will to release the Chaos Emeralds, allowing Sonic to become Super Sonic. The battle proved difficult as Chaosbot could also teleport with Chaos Control. Deciding to change tactics, Sonic destroyed Eggman's remote, allowing Chaos to knock Eggman away. Sonic then destroyed the Greenbots, allowing Chaos to return home.
Personality[]
Chaos is primarily a very loving and gentle creature who cares dearly for the Chao it protects. Mainly watching over the Chao as an inert pool of water, it only becomes active in times of danger, and only attacks when the Chao needs protection. However, it has a bad temper; after seeing its sacred precincts being invaded by Pachacamac and his men, Chaos became filled with anger and sadness.
Following the attack on its precinct generations years ago, Chaos became corrupted by its own negative emotions, causing to forsake its loving and passive ways and become a rage-filled monster driven only by its own immeasurable anger. Its fury proved to be so great that it wanted nothing more than to destroy the world out of spite, even after getting revenge on those responsible for angering it in the first place. In its corrupted state, Chaos remained eternally determined and vengeful, as its desire to bring the world to ruin persisted even after several generations. However, after Super Sonic neutralized it, Chaos returned to its previous peaceful and gentle demeanor.
