Nicky, you MFer, i’m coming for you. You can’t hide from me. I own you, I own Karla. You better watch your fucking back because one of these days i’ll find you and your lame magic tricks, won’t be able to save you then
~ Chaplin in the sneak peek, threatening to find Nicky
Karla: My parents sent us on a ship in the night. Escaped the war, fresh start at life. We docked at a little port town. Chaplin was out sniffing around.

Chaplin: “Why two princesses, want new dresses? Show you love, and what success is?”
Nicky: For some reason he liked me. So I did some tricks Pockets taught me.
Chaplin: “Jazzy hands, oh me likey! Come be a star, be like me!” ''

~ Nicky and Karla describing how Chaplin brought them to his carnival

Chaplin is the main antagonist of the Slavic-Canadian band Rare American’s song, Brittle Bones Nicky 3, serving as the third installment and midquel of the Brittle Bones Nicky series.

He is a shady and abusive entrepreneur who runs a carnival that Nicky gets a job in, and the abuser boss of Karla, who is holding her and her sister Kashia hostage.

Appearance[]

Chaplin is an older man with a stocky build, with a white tank top and blue suit and pants and hat, with black hair peeking out. He also has a small mustache across his face. Chaplin also has a small golden key that is around his neck that is for his safe.

Personality[]

He’s an entertainer, an entrepreneur, and an empty souled megalomaniac with less money than he makes people believe, but deep connections nonetheless to the who’s-who all across town.

The Corruptioner is dirty and knows how to use leverage to his advantage. You don’t want to end up on his bad side… and Nicky… sure sounds like he’s on his bad side.

~ Rare Americans bio on Chaplin

Chaplin is described as being an “empty souled megalomaniac” and shows to be a skilled manipulator who uses charm and big dreams to lure people into his circus. He’s an abusive man who keeps people to himself and to “know their place” and can appear friendly, but is revealed to be a hot headed and belligerent monster ready to kill someone at a moments notice.

Biography[]

Chaplin is the runner of his own carnival, picking up Karla and her sister Kashia at a port town when they were children. Chaplin stole their passports and kept them effectively hostage, abusing them physically and sexually as they were made into performers. It’s unknown if anyone else in his circus are also held against their will.

After meeting Karla during one of the circuses performances in town, Nicky hops into the truck and becomes a performer, impressing Chaplin with his card tricks and becoming magician, dubbing himself “Brittle Bones Nicky.” However, when seeing Chaplin’s mistreatment of Karla and her sister and knowing the “scary shit” he’s done, Nicky decides to help Karla. Nicky plays a magic trick and steals the key around his neck and uses it to enter his safe where he collects all his money and the papers of Karla and Kashia and runs off to wait for Karla at a train station.

Chaplin discovers and pulls out a gun, running after Nicky. When Nicky and Karla reunite at the train station, Karla reveals to double cross Nicky and take the bag from him, and runs off away into the woods. Heartbroken, Nicky boards the train and only shares a glance at Karla before departing, escaping an anger Chaplin.
