Charles Edmund Cullen is the main antagonist of the 2022 Netflix biographical crime drama film The Good Nurse.

He is a nurse and serial killer who murders his own his patients. He is based on the real Charles Cullen, who at murdered 200 patients at his hospital until he was arrested and sent to prison.

He is portrayed by Eddie Redmayne, who also played Osmund in Black Death, Alex Forbes in Like Minds, Balem Abrasax in Jupiter Ascending, and The Jackal in 2024 television series, The Day of the Jackal.

Biography[]

Amy Loughren is a single parent struggling with health problems while working at a hospital. When Charles Cullen, a new colleague, starts at their hospital in New Jersey, the two become friends. Charles' loving, supportive nature fills an emotional void in Amy's life. From now on, she can better cope with the daily stress at work and endure the long night shifts. Amy is speechless when some of her patients mysteriously die. She actually thought they were healthy people who were on the road to recovery. As the number of deaths increases, local homicide investigators Danny Baldwin and Tim Braun are called in. Both recognize a suspicious pattern but are put in their place by the hospital's bureaucracy. When rumors about Charles' past with former employers surfaced, the police pinned all their hopes on Amy, who also had doubts. However, the hospital finds out what he did he was suspended from his job and was subsequently fired due to his mass murders of 200 patients and was sentenced to life in jail for the murders.
