Biography[]
Charles Lee was promoted to second-in-command of George Washington on June 22, 1775, after his failure at the Battle of Monmouth. He was put on trial and disgraced, and begun spreading rumours that Washington was incompetent and unable to run the army. This led to John Larens challenging him to a duel, as Alexander Hamilton who had previously wished to was forbade by Washington ("Stay Alive").
They duelled on, December 23, 1778, with Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr as their seconds. Laurens shoots Lee in the side, and despite both him and Laurens wishing to continue the duel, their seconds protest and the duel is called off. At this point, George Washington arrives, promising Lee he had nothing to do with the conflict, and Lee is taken away by a doctor.
Personality[]
Charles Lee was an arrogant, cowardly, incompetent General who utterly failed in his duty but refused to take any responsibility for it. He had no care for Washington or any of his allies' reputations and would simply manipulate the facts and his status for his own gain.
