| ~ Charlie on his uncle's behavior. |
Charlie's Uncle is a minor character in the adult animated comedy series Smiling Friends. Despite never making a physical appearance, he serves as a running gag in the show, with various peculiar references made towards him throughout by his nephew, Charlie Dompler.
Biography[]
Season 1[]
In the episode "Mr. Frog," Charlie reveals to Pim that his uncle was responsible for a horrific drunk driving accident that resulted in the death of an entire family. To make up for the incident, his uncle compensated the affected family with a substantial sum of money, which effectively resolved the matter. Later, Charlie mentions another incident where his uncle drove into a crowd of people. This incident haunted him, forcing him to rely on sleeping pills to cope with the guilt after committing such an atrocity.
Season 2[]
In "Erm, the Boss Finds Love?", Charlie explains to Allan that he is taking care of a humanoid, female android on behalf of his uncle, who is currently in the hospital. In "Charlie, Pim, and Bill vs the Alien", Charlie recalls that his uncle used to perform in a band called The Red Gapers, where he played the theremin.
In "Pim Finally Turns Green", Charlie enlists his uncle's help to contact Bill Nye, aiming to teach Rotten that death is not something to fear, which suggests that his uncle has significant connections.
Season 3[]
In "Curse of the Green Halloween Witch," Charlie mentions that his uncle taught him how to exorcise someone when they're possessed using the power of Christ. He does so in an attempt to save Glep. However, since this happened in the titular witch's alternate reality, it's unknown if this is canon.
Trivia[]
Those in attendance at Charlie's funeral.
- The android that Charlie's uncle keeps is a reference to Tara the Android from the infamous "I Feel Fantastic" YouTube video, which can be viewed here.
- During Charlie's funeral in "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back," there is only one unknown attendant: a grey critter on the far right. This either means that this character is Charlie's uncle, or that Charlie's uncle did not attend his nephew's funeral.
- The final episode of Season 3, "Charlie's Uncle Dies and Doesn't Come Back" (and "Friend-Bot (Version 12589218731809213528796879521)"), in which Charlie's uncle is titular, was accidentally revealed via a listing on WarnerTV.de's Smiling Friends page.[2]
- The episode title is a play on the Season 1 finale, "Charlie Dies and Doesn't Come Back."
- Although it's implied, it's never explicitly made clear whether Charlie is always mentioning the same uncle each time.
References[]
- ↑ It's unclear if he is a Dompler, as Charlie never states if he is his paternal uncle or maternal uncle.
- ↑ S3 confirmed to be 10 episodes. These are the names and descriptions of the two episodes that were kept a surprise
