Reverend Charlie Wilkins is the main antagonist of the 2012 novel Hitman: Damnation, a prequel to Hitman: Absolution,
He is a charismatic and highly influential restauranteur and televangelist who was head of the Church of Will running for President of the United States of America. However, itβs revealed he is the mastermind and personal financier of the terrorist group, New Model Army, with plans to overthrow the United States Government.
Personality[]
Charlie Wilkins presents himself as a benevolent, and hearted and charismatic religious leader, caring for the American People and criticizing the incompetence of the government. He also appears as a great authority figure and father to Dana Linder as well as a friend to Helen McAdams.
However, itβs revealed Wilkins is actually a power hungry manipulator willing to use anything or anyone to get into power. His own adopted (possibly biological) children are disposable for him, ordering the death of Dana in order to get sympathy and proceeds to even orchestrate a massacre of his own loyal followers and him as the survivor to destabilize the country into a civil war.
Biography[]
Reverend Charlie Wilkins was born sometimes in the 1940s in the Virginia region, and sometime in the 1970s, he founded the Church of Will, a open community that accepts everyone of any single religion, which made him one of the most influential people of his times. He also opened up a restaurant, known as βCharlieβsβ in which became the second most popular restaurant in the world, rivaling only McDonaldβs.
At some point, Charlie became involved in a marital affair with Wendy Shipley, the mother of Dana and Darren Shipley. He then proceeded to murder her husband, Eric, in a βhunting accidentβ before marrying Wendy and proceeded to adopt Dana and Darren (who themselves are implied to be Charlie!s biological children). Wendy later died of cancer, making the children under his guardianship. Dana Shipley (later Linder) became a senator and an avowed supporter of Wilkins, meanwhile Darren went into the marines during Iraq, where he was brutally maimed injured while trying to stop his commanders from opening fire in a daycare, and left for dead. Darren proceeded to become βCromwellβ and founded The New Model Army, a terrorist group that attacked the United States, where Charlie Wilkins facilitated their money in order to make the leadership of US President Mark Burdett look incompetent.
Charlie Wilkins later ordered a hit on Dana Linder when she decides to run for president, with her being assassinated during a public speech by Agent 47. This does nothing but spur people to Wilkinsβ side and against Burdett, who is blamed for the murder as Wilkins decides to run for president. Wilkins is revealed to have ordered a hit on himself, planning to stop and kill Agent 47 and paint himself as a survivor and thus, win the presidency. Agent 47 is proceeded to be attacked by βCromwellβ as Wilkins escapes the assassination, though 47 escapes after triggering Darrenβs PTSD.
Wilkins, in November 1st, prepares a speech at the Washington Mall as Agent 47 plans to assassinate him. However, Charlie has Cromwell and his soldiers disguised as national guard, opening fire on the crowd of innocent supporters, all to ensure Mark Burdett gets blamed and a full scale civil war happens where he is in charge. Helen McAdams ends up killed in the crossfire, sending 47 out in the warpath as he kills Cromwell and chases down Charlie in a bus, crashing into his limousine and sending him into the water, killing him and later exposing all his crimes to the public.
