Charlotte Bryde is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Jonah Byrde) of the Netflix series Ozark.
She is the eldest child of Marty and Wendy Bryde. Unlike her brother, she starts off without much troubling behavior. However, as time progresses, she gradually begins to embrace her family's ruthless methods, until she outright becomes a willing accomplice and joins her parents in their crimes.
She was portrayed by Sofia Hublitz.
Personality[]
Charlotte starts off as a very normal teenage girl, with normal teenager problems, like making friends and seeking out a boyfriend. However, the further the series progresses, the colder and more eager to help her parents she becomes. While she nearly goes to live with her grandfather in the final season, she ultimately changes her mind and stands by her parents in the end.
Biography[]
Charlotte's life in the Ozarks starts off on a rough note, as she is lonely and depressed. Her only friendship is with a local boy named Wyatt Langmore. During the season 1 finale, she steals money from her parents, which begins her journey into a life of crime. During season 2 she helps Jonah open a bank account behind her parent's backs, and steals a book for her friend Wyatt, much to his disgust.
While she tries to leave her family towards the end of season 2, she is convinced to change her mind in the end, and begins to work with them in season 3. During season 4 she fully commits, threatening a former friend to stay quiet, and chastising her brother for going against his parents. Her grandfather nearly manipulates her into moving away with him, but he is thwarted by her mother Wendy. Eventually she is so comfortable with her position, she throws away her SAT in school and leaves, believing that her family will provide for her, and that college is pointless.
Trivia[]
- Charlotte is the least villainous of the Byrdes, as she is the only one not to commit or even order a murder. However, she still qualifies as a villain by the end of the series.
