Chaska and Hesutu are the secondary antagonists of the French computer-generated series Tales of Tatonka. They are the sidekicks of Taïma, the main antagonist of the series.

Appearence

Chaska and Hesutu both have brown-gray fur with tawny and light gray markings. Chaska, however, has a tawny face with black markings over his eyes and a tawny rump. Hesutu, on the other hand, has tawny markings on his forehead, sides and underside of his muzzle, and cheek fur. His personality is more stoic, but no less mean, with a raspier voice.

Personality

Chaska and Hesutu are very loyal to Taǐma, but although they always follow their leader's orders, sometimes they are more cautious than their arrogant leader, knowing how to act during intrusions into Wicasa's territory or calculating certain aspects such as seasonal changes. This sometimes means they are reprimanded by their boss who sometimes calls them cowards. Chaska's personality is rougher and wittier than Hesutu's.

History

Season 1

Empty river: Chaska and Hesutu first appear alongside Taïma when Poum accidentally wakes them up. Upon seeing Wanji and Cinksi in their territory, the renegade wolves give chase. They then learn that Wanji is Wicasa's son, and Taïma decides to kill him. After another chase, Wanji and Cinksi arrive at a dam blocking the salmon's access to the river. Taima pursues them while Chaska and Hesutu stay behind. When Wicasa arrives, the two wolves growl at the sight of him. They then follow Taima when he is swept away by the current when the dam breaks. In this episode, the two wolves are mute.

Trivia

• The name Chaska is a gender-neutral name of Lakota and Dakota origin meaning "first born son", while Hesutu is of Native American Miwok origin meaning "yellow jacket's nest rising out of the ground". In the show's context it could possibly means that Chaska is older than Hesutu.
• While loyal, Chaska and Hesutu are not typically shown to be masterminds. Instead, they are depicted as following Taïma's orders and doing his bidding, whether it is an attempt to steal food, raid territory, or attack the protagonist cubs.
