Chattur'gha is one of the three overarching antagonists (alongside Ulyaoth and Xel'lotath) of the 2002 Nintendo horror video game Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. He is an Ancient who is the God of Health.
He was voiced by Greg Eagles, who also voiced Michael Edwards in the same game.
Personality[]
Chattur'gha is very much a brute, as he is prone to blindly striking his opponents in battle, with Xel'lotath's fate being a testament to his brutality. Chattur'gha is so known for his love of war and violence that he is often represented by images of a warrior.
Unlike the other Ancients, he seems to lack the level of intelligence that Ulyaoth and Xel'lotath have. He often has Pious do all of the scheming for him seemingly to the point of dependence, a stark contrast to Ulyaoth, who concocts plots on his own. Not only that, but every other Ancient is more aware of the events on Earth, whereas Chattur'gha must ask Pious how things are progressing. Funnily enough, his lack of intelligence keeps him from thinking twice or hesitating too much, making certain tricks pointless.
Chattur'gha is also exceedingly acquisitive and gluttonous, as his goals involve him and his minions slaughtering and devouring mankind upon his arrival on Earth. He also eats pieces of Xel'lotath as well.
Chattur'gha does his best to look and sound intimidating. He roars loudly and his voice sound extremely demonic, sometimes making him sound more like he's growling rather than speaking.
Appearance[]
Chattur'gha resembles a red and brown gigantic worm with lobster-like claws and a tail. The claws seemingly double as extra mouths, and Chattur'gha has an uneven amount of demonic yellow eyes. He even has a second mouth inside of his first one. Chattur'gha's skeleton is exposed in certain spots.
Minions[]
Chattur'gha's followers have a significant amount of health, and the ones that can use magick (such as the guardians of Ehn'Gha) can heal. Should they lose a limb, then they will simply regenerate. Their appearances vary from being heavily armored to lacking skin to cover their flesh with.
Powers and Abilities[]
He uses brute force to fight enemies, and attacks them with his claws or eats them. In the event that he does use magick, he shoots a red energy beam from one of his claws.
Strengths and Weaknesses[]
As with the usual rock-paper-scissors theme through the game, Chattur'gha can effortlessly crush Xel'lotath, as the mind cannot save someone from the physical, but his attacks are useless against Ulyaoth, as Chattur'gha lacked the intelligence to overcome Ulyaoth's arcane arts.
Story[]
Chattur'gha Alignment[]
If the player has Pious Augustus choose Chattur'gha as the Ancient he wants to summon, Pious can be seen talking to him several times. In the end, Alex summoned Ulyaoth to fight Chatter'gha. During the battle, Chattur'gha uses one of his claws to fire a beam against Ulyaoth, but Ulyaoth opens a portal for the beam and uses it to ambush Chattur'gha from behind, severely burning him. Chattur'gha then tries to strike Ulyaoth, but Ulyaoth blocks his attack with a portal and severs his claw, causing him to roar in pain. Ulyaoth then uses a beam of magic to sever Chattur'gha's other claw. As Chattur'gha crawls away in pain, Ulyaoth uses his magic to sever Chattur'gha's body in half before disposing of his remains. Before Ulyaoth could rule the universe, Edward's spirit channels Xel'lotath's magic to seal Ulyaoth away.
Xel'lotath Alignment[]
If the player has Pious choose Xel'lotath as his Ancient, Alex will summon Chattur'gha to fight her. During the battle, Xel'lotath channels a magical beam against Chattur'gha, but Chattur'gha repels Xel'lotath. Xel'lotath then uses her psychic tactics to confuse Chattur'gha by creating replicas of herself, but Chattur'gha overcomes this tactic by repelling Xel'lotath before using a magical beam to subdue her. With Xel'lotath at his mercy, Chattur'gha grabs her and uses his remaining strength to rip her to bits before roaring triumphantly. Before Chattur'gha could rule the universe, Edward's spirit channels Ulyaoth's magic to seal him away. However, Mantorok somehow tampered with the three timelines and allowed them to continue as one after the deathblow of each Ancient, leaving Chattur'gha destroyed forever.
Ulyaoth Alignment[]
If the player has Pious choose Ulyaoth as his Ancient, Chattur'gha is briefly shown in a vision by Ulyaoth, being defeated by him, though he is not shown clearly enough. After Xel'lotath defeats Ulyaoth, Edward's spirit channels Chattur'gha's magic to seal Xel'lotath away before her plans of world domination could come to fruition.
Quotes[]
| “ | Pious Augustus: Your presence is long missed, my liege. I feel that my power is weakening from your absence. Chattur'gha: Yes. Your power flows from me. Without me, you are nothing. Pious Augustus: My meditations reveal a flaw in our plan. Chattur'gha: There is no flaw. Mantorok and the others move too slowly to counter our preparations. Once Mantorok is bound, its death will be prolonged for a thousand years. Its fate will assure that the balance of power of the opposing Ancients will remain in our favor. And with the keeper nullified, my power grows stronger still. Pious Augustus: And what of its essence? Chattur'gha: Mantorok has employed others to defend it. It is of no matter, for the power I will wield upon my return will crush all that oppose me. Enough of this. What of this Charlemagne the Frank? Is he still a concern? Pious Augustus: His undoing has been planned in intricate detail. Those most loyal to him will be instrumental in his death. Nothing short of a miracle will keep him alive, and there hasn't been one of those for a long time. |

| “ | Pious Augustus: Our guardians have located the heart, master. Before the month is out, it shall be ours. Chattur'gha: Do not underestimate the power of Mantorok, warlock! Its power cannot be defined in terms you understand. For seven centuries, its corpse has corroded your universe. Pious Augustus: And during those seven, the denizens of the region have been either destroyed or driven away. There is nothing, no one, to stop us from collecting it. Mantorok and its essence lie unprotected in the jungle. Chattur'gha: Then waste no more time. Retrieve it immediately! And pray to me that you do. Time is running short. And without me, you are mere flesh and bone. Remember that. |

| ~ Chattur'gha warning Pious about Mantorok's powers. |
| “ | Pious Augustus: Everything is complete for your arrival, master. Now we must wait for the planets to align, and that is not too many years from now. Another Roivas has crossed our path. This time, we will not be so merciful. Chattur'gha: Mercy has no place in this world. Pious Augustus: He will meet such a horrible death, that the rest of the line will never set foot in his house again. Chattur'gha: Pray to me that they don't. |
„ |
| ~ Pious informing his plan to eliminate Edward Roivas to Chattur'gha. |
| “ | Pious Augustus: Master, I bring thee grave news. The colony of guardians in the ruins of Ehn'Gha has been decimated. Without them, I fear we are lost. Chattur'gha: Your fears are unfounded, servant. This news is irrelevant! I have seen the future that will come to pass. In this vision, I see myself crushing Xel'lotath, as I was destined to do. My many mouths consume its body from all sides, gnawing at it, until nothing remains. This, I have seen. This is what will be. Pious Augustus: You would place all our faith in a vision? Chattur'gha: Yes, just as I have placed all my faith in you. |

Trivia[]
