Chi Un-D (血雲-D, ちうんでぃー, Chundī) is a female robot created by D.A.S., She is the final boss of Gunforce II.
Information[]
Chi Un-D was created for the sole purpose of guarding the D.A.S. organization's ICBM, being programmed to destroy any intruders in the airborne facility's missile silo. She was not programmed with a distinct personality, lacking a sophisticated AI, and the capability of speech outside the occasional scream. While almost completely mechanical, she was also partially created with organic parts.[1]
Chi Un-D is a large humanoid robot with a snake-like lower body. She has a red helmet with a long brim, and two hair bun/twin tail parts on the back of her head. She has a black visor that's usually concealed by her helmet. Her true face is revealed during her flamethrower attack, showing a humanoid skull with two snake-like fangs. She has red chest armor which covers her large breasts, the armor breaks apart during the climax of the fight which reveals her chest. Her arms have large spiked shoulder pads, spiked bracelets, and three fingered hands. Her tail is made up of multiple spiked segments, with the final red segment possessing two antennae similar to a centipede's tail.
Story[]
During Mission 5, Max (and/or Lei) break into D.A.S.'s airborne facility. After discovering the ICBM, they encounter Chi Un-D whose tail is wrapped around the large missile. She attacks by stabbing the heroes with her claws, unveiling her skull to shoot her flame breath, and summoning robot caterpillars, which attach on either side of the platform and fire flamethrowers onto the walls.
As the fight progresses, Chi Un-D becomes heavily damaged. With her armor and tail falling apart, she climbs on to the side platforms, flinging her torn off arm at the heroes, as her other arm becomes more damaged, she falls off the side platform, but manages to climb back onto the main platform. After a brief struggle she's defeated by falling off the platform and down the missile silo.
Boss Synopsis[]
The boss fight consists of evading Chi Un-D's claw attacks, telegraphed by her crawling up the ICBM and out of frame, or by the glint animation around her visor. Her other main attack is her flame breath, which rotates in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise manner, forcing the player to navigate around the stage via climbing the walls and jumping over her. This is made more challenging when Chi Un-D summons the robot caterpillars, which burn the walls of the stage with their flamethrowers, requiring the player to defeat them before attempting to escape the rotating flame breath. During the desperation attack, Chi Un-D will throw her torn arm at the player, although this attack does not actually have a hitbox, rendering it harmless.
Trivia[]
- She was originally designed with a spider lower body. This was changed to a snake-like body inspired by Nagas.[1]
- Her name, hair bun parts, and spiked bracelets are a reference to Chun-Li from the Street Fighter series.
- Her design may have been the inspiration to create Justice, the final boss from the first Guilty Gear game, who happens to be a female armored cyborg like her.
- Some enemies share design elements with Chi Un-D, those being the red robot soldiers, and the female robots in stage 4.
- Chi Un-D was partially designed by Meeher, the director of Gunforce II and the planner/producer for the Metal Slug games by Nazca.
