Chicken Joe was a supporting antagonist in the 1984 gangster film Once Upon a Time in America.
He was portrayed by the late Richard Bright, who also played Al Neri in the Godfather Trilogy and Sheldon Kerrick in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
History[]
Chicken Joe and his partner Willie the Ape were enforcers for corrupt teamsters union boss Crowning. He is first seen torturing Jimmy O'Donnell by pouring gasoline all over him, and threatening to light him on fire. Suddenly the Gang shows up holding Crowning hostage, and forced them to release Jimmy.
Joe and Willie perform a drive by shooting on Jimmy. Hitting his leg badly, and laughing maniacally as they drove off. Later, while outside a restaurant with Crowning, Joe and Willie are both shot to death by Noodles Aaronson and Max Bercovicz, as payback for the hit on O'Donnell.
Trivia[]
- It is mentioned that Joe has stomach cancer.
